Seat Clicking

Hi all, was just wondering if anybody with a 120 has ever had the seat clicking under brakes and when taking off. Feels like its around my rib area and seems to be more on the left side of me. Its like when you have a split bit of metal (say can of coke) and click it back and forth. Really annoying and would really like to rectify the problem ASAP. Maybe some thing in the frame has given way, just started in the last week ?? And also if I need to remove the seat covering how is this done without doing damage to the velour trim ??.......Its a GXL so doesn't have lumbar support or any electrical slides etc. I have moved the rear of the seat (recliner) in different positions but has done nothing but definitely feels like its from with in the seat........ I've had an intermittent rattle coming from my front passenger seat for a while now. It occurs when the seat moves from side to side when driving over a rough surface or when cornering. I've traced it down to the point on right side of the seat where the seat back pivots in order to recline but haven't been able to stop the noise. I had Toyota look at it but of course they couldn't replicate the problem, which seems to be happening more often now, like your noise it doesn't matter what position the seat is in.
Not sure if it's the same problem as yours but might give you somewhere to look, I'm pretty fed up with my seat and have been tempted to rip the bloody thing out a few times.

Are all the seat mounting bolts done up tight??????
Reason being, if the seat frame was broken, you would feel it moving about. Also dont forget that sound travels in the vehicle, so a sound that you think is coming from one area could infact be coming from somewhere else.

Actually feels like I can feel it behind my back on the left of me. I am going to try and see if I can remove the trim and have a look......Cheers Steve

This could be very interesting, or very embarrassing.

Not sure about the insides of a Prado seat... but found this to do with another make: http://www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/tips_pages/seat_clicking_fix2.htm

Maybe something similar?

Steve I have a similar issue and only stumbled up this thread today.

In my case the drivers seat clicks/cracks and turns out its one of the bushes in some part of the mechanism (according to my local dealer)

At $900 bucks for a replacement seat BASE (not the whole seat mind you) im trying to live with it. Gotta say its bloody annoying though.

p.s I'll put it out there again - if anyone is getting rid of their 120 and wants to cut a deal on swapping the drivers seat please PM me. Bribery will be involved...

Yeah 120D4D, I was listening more to mine today and Im sure now its coming from the reclining part of it. I thought it was just one side(left) but after today Im sure its coming from both sides. Be stuffed if Im paying $900. I didn't have time on the weekend so will try again this weekend to strip it down and see if I can find exactly where its coming from but yes extremely annoying. My wifes car is doing the same bloody thing (not a prado but a Toyota). Ill fix mine first I drive mine more lol.........Cheers Steve

I'd love to see some photos or instructions on how to strip it down if you get the chance Steve.
I would like to see what the issue is myself if possible, maybe a bush can be replaced and my dealer just doesnt want to do it...

Mate, did you ever get around to trying to fix the rattle in your seat? Mine seems to have finally set in for good after being intermittent for a while and it's really giving me the shits.

Interested to know how you went pulling the seat apart to fix the rattle if you have done so.

Hi there Jeff, it's stopped of its own accord (u probably jinxed me now lol) no rattles ??? No idea where the rattle went. Wife's car still does it but updating it soon not just trying to ignore it now lol..... Cheers Steve

Lucky Bugger! Mine went away for most of winter, but now it has warmed up a bit its come back and has been there everyday for the last week +. Just about ready to rip the sit out and try pulling it apart to find the cause. What could possibly go wrong!

To be honest probably not that hard, I think it would be easier to remove the whole seat from the vehicle including the runners and check it write over. Yeah I hope mine doesn't start again now the weather is warming up, if it does Ill blame you for jinxing me lol.....Cheers Steve
