  • Opposite Lock

Went down to Opposite lock at Springwood today and they are having an up to 30% sale at the moment..

if you're after bits it could be worth having a look!

I've got my Ironman Bullbar lined up for roughly $1350 installed with discount!

Very friendly/helpful guys down there, was happy to go through in detail with me why the ARB one is double the cost (or more so, why the ironman one was cheaper), pointed out the pro's and cons of both (even though he obviously can't sell the ARB one). Very helpful!

    Sale ends Friday next week.

Bewdy, thanks for the heads-up McBain!

A hole is being burned in my pocket and I need to do something about it.

I'll wander up there this week.

i'm looking to get the same put on when they do the bar. revised quote on the bar came back at $1250 installed. which I'm pretty happy with!

recovery hooks and possibly spotties are on the cards also! although i'm in the middle of a lightforce vs IPF discussion in my head..

i could just give up on that and get a snorkel instead!

SO why is the ARB one double the cost and what were the pros and cons
I have been looking at the Ironman one as well and wondering why it is so much cheaper

                build quality..

the mounts i'm told are identical. apparently if you look at them both side by side from the back then they are the same.

the grey bit at the bottom is apparently a little less "thick" if that's the word... The guy at the springwood store had one of the very first models on his patrol and it appeared to have a little flex (new ones have been re-reinforced and one on the shelf didn't have)

the grey bit also has a coating on it which can chip or wear if you go bush bashing (the one on the patrol has been tree bashing and could see some wear below the lights) but didn't look any worse than a chrome one that's been scratched/lost it's shine.

and the loops are bolted on where the ARB loops are welded. so if you hit something hard you'd probably end up breaking it rather than bending it..

all things considered i like the look of it and think at the end of the day, it's more protection than a plastic bumper and a hell of a lot cheaper (i could break this one and replace it with a second new one less than the cost of an ARB one..

It's quite a good looking bar, isn't it?

                        Nice Mr Macca very Nice!!!!

They make the front end of the Prado look like some demented mulching machine from mad max ('specially with some nice muddies underneath LOL)

Just think how nice its gonna look with the uhf and fm antennas (for that oh-so-funky head unit) sitting out on the bullbar where they're supposed to be!!!

yup! i'm told there's one antenna mount on the loop at the front left, FM antenna can go there, then i'll have to get a chunkier UHF antenna.. i'm thinking the white fiberglass one looks pretty sweet.

Well..... hasn't this been a pain in the .....

Wednesday week before last i go down there and order this Bull Bar.

"be delivered monday" they say, book it in for wednesday then!

Monday rolls around, "aah, not on today's truck, wednesday should be the winner".. fair enough, move some appointments around and book the install for thursday!

Wednesday comes and no bar. due in friday now. right. change appointments around again, head out there this morning and drop the car off. "do you have it here" i asked, "yep, downstairs" fair enough. leave the keys, $50 on a cab into the city. get into the city and ring up to confirm a couple of things, "just checking you're all good to go and the bar's there" "yep" comes the reply, "just grabbing it off the truck now." nice i think...

about an hour later i get a call. "mate the bar's not on the truck, they say it'll be in monday......

another $50 cab fare and i have my car back without bar...

                              ropeable....

I almost drove to ARB to get theirs installed instead but it's an expensive interchange on principle.....
