  • Removing paint from paint without hurting the paint.....

    Hi guys,

loading up the Prado on the weekend and admiring the mud flicked all over the place, then up towards the rear left window (cargo area) i spot some pink and silver markings... close inspection and it looks like nail polish but i can't be sure (not the wife's luckily or she'd be an ex )

in any case, some of it I've been able to chip away at using a fingernail but I'm left with some thicker bits that won't budge.

any ideas on how to loosen it without damaging the underlying paint? My first thought was some nail polish remover but i figure the acetone would chew through everything it touched which I'm not too keen on!

    any other idea's?

    Hi McBain,
You need to use a product called "Perfect-It III" by 3M Company it safely removes overspray and paint contaminants and does not hurt the base paintwork, it is a clay based product and works a treat I used it many times on my work car to remove 2 Pack overspray from our shipyard.
07 Upgrade GXL D4D, Manual, Dune,Sov Bar, BFG's, SG11, Redark dual Batts, Extensive Aux wiring, Stebel, LED stop tails, IPF HID's (my mod), 240V Inv, ARB Comp, GME UHF,TPMS, Safari snorkel, GPS,Hilux washers, 40l Engel in 30% pas pos, homemade A/C cond protection plate, polyairs.

sounds intriguing... where doesn't one find such product?

Any local commercial paint supplier 3M P/N 51131, make sure you have plenty of car wash as it uses this as a lubricant. It is bloody brilliant stuff and is amazing how smooth you paint surface feels after you have used it, it does take lots of elbow grease to use.
