  • Lights on Roofracks, do you get bonnet or bullbar reflections?

    Hi
Thinking about a small LED bar or lights on my roofrack. I have heard various people speak about the reflections off bullbars, bonnets, aerials etc and it being distracting.
Does anyone have photos from inside the car at night of either a light bar or spot lights that are roof mounted to gauge any reflections.?
    Cheers

hey gumboot I have a 40inch baja light bar on my roof basket. The only reflection I get is off the GME ariel which is white so I ran black duc tape on half the ariel to reduce the reflection (cheaper then buying a new ariel) which has helped considerably.Other then that it is great no reflection off bonnet or bullbar...

The angle of light throw from an LED light bar is much narrower so there is very little reflection off the bonnet.

      See my post here

The light output above is from this 40x3W light bar

A good trick when setting up lighting on the roof is to run a piece of string from the bullbar to the top of the roof above the windscreen, then if you mount the light behind that string you wont get the glare on the bonnet etc.

Piece of advice, running roof mounted lights without bullbar mounted lights will make reduce your ability to see potholes and "minor" imperfections on the road.
Hood glare you can avoid by mounting the light bar a little more to the rear so that the corner of the roof right above the windshield blocks the light, hence giving you shade on the hood. (the method given by 4wd supplies works perfectly to determine this)
The part of the aerials you cant really avoid, specially from LED bars which are astoundingly bright, and the glare can become really annoying. Especially if you have the big ass UHF aerials you aussies use!! I think you just have to get used to it or relocate the aerial to the rear!

To reduce glare off the UHF antennas, apply some heatshrink.
