  • UHF Radio question...

Not which one I should buy, I have one, the question is based on performance.

I have a GME TX3200 he has an ICOM remote hit (with the controls in the handset).
Both 40 channel, we both run the same Benelec aerial with the 6dB and 3dB interchangeable bits.
We both have 2008 D4D, with Sov bars, aerials mounted in the same spot, on the bar

So, we were travelling in convoy, returning from Mudgee yesterday, chatting away on the radio and when we stopped for a comfort stop, he said he was changing channels as he was getting a lot of cross talk, with other people.
I didn't hear anything other than him.

Is it just a radio thing? Is his radio that much better than mine? Are our aerials wire differently in the car?
Or is it because I was behind him and he was blocking signal...??

    Mark.

Does this have anything to do with the squelch setting?

Stating the obvious of course, but I assume you changed to the same channel as your friend!!!

Hmm, Could be, can you elaborate a little? I am still learning the intricacies of these things, typically, it is just talking in convoy like we were, but I thought this was strange, as I have always wondered if it was working properly.

Thommo, yes, we were both on the same channel (18, then moved up to 19)..

Squelch may be the answer, but what about the CTSS?? setting, I.m not sure if that is the right title but believe that it somehow limits "traffic". Can,t find a manual at the moment so can,t confirm either way. One if you may have it turned on/off? Keen to know the result. Cheers! Grizz..

Thanks AMTS, I'll check those links out.

Griz, CTSS? I only have four buttons on the front of my radio, PRI for pre programmed primary channel, SCAN, DUP and SQL.

I think I may need to RTFM.. But don't tell the wife I can read..

Not overly happy to admit to reading instructions..you know the 'real men don,t eat quiche thing', just bought a couple of handhelds and during unpacking the manual fell out and and luckily opened to the right page!!! I should have said CTCSS which apparently means Contiuous Tone Coded Squelch System.... Seems it,s a feature that allows a group to talk to each other without hearing others on the same channel!! Yeah well still unsure of what the answer is...so good luck and please post when you get a result! Cheers!
