  • Another Prado???????

Given it all over again.....would you buy another Prado? Or, would you get something else?

  • #2
Depending on how much $$$$ I had, I would keep my current Prado and buy something else
97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.

I did have my time again, and I did buy another Prado. Still haven't come to terms with the 150 though, not sure I would go that route next time, but then again everything else is going down the same overkill everything electronic path anyway.

Might just rebuild the old 85 Lux and drive that for another 600 thou

      Cheers Andrew

I would only buy another Prado if Toyota can confirm a fix for the weak guards. I haven't experienced cracking yet (touch wood and everything else!), but now I've added every accessory that people say contributes to the issue, it's something that always sits in the back of my mind.

If I did have to replace it I would be in the same boat as when I purchased anyway, looked at all options and the Prado was the only one that ticked every box so the choice was easy.

Since the oil use issues in the V8 D4D are supposedly resolved, I'd probably be looking at a 200 series...

I did. Wasn't my intention to but did anyway! My 120 had all the electrickery that the 150s possess so that wasn't an issue. The 120 was a great car, suited us well. On the list were a Disco, Toureg, Rangie and the Prado. Prado was the first looked at and driven and when the wife said that's ok, I stopped looking.

My issues iwth the 150 were looks (a bit meh in my opinion particularly the centre console), the rear seats (but a distant memory now under the spare bed), I didn't really like how any of the bars fitted with the upturned lights (so a T3 or Sahara bar was the obvious choice given a nudge bar is a bit light on for tight tracks) and... that's about it. It really is just a new office for the 120. With 1500 k on the clock it is quieter but not sure how much that is attributed to the Pirelli Scorpians compared with the BFG A/Ts, the steering is way lighter and takes some getting used to, the reversing sensors and camera work, it seems more fuel efficient but I think it is a bit more sluggish not that that matters since it's a 4wd. Downsides are the new off the show room floor brakes aren't as good as the DBA/Bendix combo in the 120, cargo area is much reduced though there is more space in 2nd row seats. Nice colour though!

If Toyota were to increase the tow capacity of the four door GXL D4D Auto to 3000kg......yes I would consider another Prado........if not, I will be looking elsewhere.

Shame really, the Prado suits us very well, but the 2500kg tow limit is a bit restrictive for choice of caravan with ensuite.

This my second V6 120 ( 03 + 09 ). I've had more warranty issues with my 09 than I every had with my 03. Maybe the old saying is true .. "never buy the first or last model in the series". My 09 is well sorted now am I am very happy with it, and will probably buy it out when the lease ends. It will be my last Prado as I do not like anything about the 150's.

I like my Prado even with it's little querks, i wanted a 200 series but the mrs said it was to big, so i think in the next year or so i might upgrade to a Cruiser for the extra power. I'll let the wife keep the Prado & get rid of her gay Lexus.

                Cheers

Not with the current diesel engine...... Based on the info available here. Not too keen on the look of the 150.
When I do eventually replace mine, I'm thinking of a Ranger or D-Max (washing mouth out). Don't need a wagon any more.

I'm in that boat now. I have never owned a Prado, but I have been looking and assessing and weighing up and considering and re-considering four wheel drive vehicles for quite a while now. By a process of elimination I keep coming back to a petrol Prado. I don't have a massive budget and I have to buy a vehicle my significant other is happy with. So far an auto 120 is the only one that ticks that very important box.

Hence I am here, mining the experience and knowledge of those that have gone before, while I wait for the right vehicle to pop up.

I don't want to get rid of my 120 series Prado! But if I had to, I would certainly get another Prado.

I would have bought another Prado if they towed more than 2.5T even though I'm not that keen on the dash layout of the 150.And seeing that not a lot of the extras on my old 120 would fit a new 150 it was going to be a case of spending a lot on extras on what ever I bought. The 200 has got that much more grunt than a Prado it's unreal and the brakes are up to the task as well, they are better than the wifes VE ute brakes. It's also surprising the space under the bonnet for adding bits and pieces. The build up of the 200 is progressing well,I just keep finding things to do to it

I'd go another Prado. Has to be a 120 though as I like the shape better and the 1KZ motor for it's simplicity.
