If i could offer an opinion?, I personally NEVER, EVER, look at a vehicle with a replacement motor, There is just a stigma attached that it,s a lemon, may well not be, may well be brand new, performed by qualified, competent mechanics with reciepts as long as you're arm, and i wouldn't go any further than the ad, it just............is. IMO that would be a reasonable portion of the market feels the same, no reason, it,s just the way it is, Same same with a modded vehicle setup for touring, offroading, In both dirtbikes and 4wd,s I would only ever consider bog stock, all the accessories may well be something you want to purchase, but they also tell a portion of a story, if a vehicles lifted, and decked out with a winch, etc, it tells me that vehicles been places those items are neccessary, and with so many soccer mums driving around in clean bitumen only prado,s, why would you buy something that,s possibly been god knows where.

Apologies if im coming across as negative, it,s not intended that way, just giving a perspective from someone who buy,s vehicles of all types regularly, and what i tend to avoid, couldn't offer any advice RE the value of your vehicle as I don't do diesel, never have, never will, best of luck with the vehicle whether you keep, or sell.

      cheers

Glad I'm not selling at the moment. Whoever picks up my rig in the future will get a (insert personal opinion) equipped rig that has been regularly serviced and cared for. I do understand what your saying but things like my front and rear lockers protect the vehicle and rather than "gunning it up a difficult hill" I just cruise up slowly without strain or unnecessary bashing he hell out of the sub frame or the myriad of other problems or unnecessary wear and tear.

Yes, I would buy a fully equipped vehicle, but I would also consider who the driver is rather than what has been done to the vehicle.

Finally, they don't "do up" mining vehicles as an example and that's what we all need to avoid unless that's what we are sourcing intentionally.

mlc - possibly negative on the other side of the coin.

While I can understand some prejudice against a new short motor there are a few cases where it actually is a good thing. Early LS1s, Nissan 3L and the first Rodeo common rail engine all had a fair number of engine replacements which are an improvement on the original engine. For those who have investigated the 120 D4D engine replacement injectors or a short engine ISN'T a sign of abuse. But to each their own. Also I have seen some standard soccer mum cars do beach runs where the driver had no clue and the 4wd worked harder valve bouncing and generally getting the driveline thrashed than a well set up 4wd driven by a competent 4wd'er. The other thing is a dedicated 4wd'er (as long as their name isn't Jasen) will make sure the salt is washed off afterwards. Same for what MLC says, yes cars with lockers go further than those without but they do it easier. God knows I have been yelled ay many a time for going too slowly on tracks.

There is no substitute for a proper inspection and due diligence. And if you get a few toys with the car then that is money you don't have to spend.
