(I don't run roof racks at all, as I only have about 1/2 an inch to an inch clearance in the garage door)
    TIA
Its all to do with the brackets and ensuring you've got enough clearance to open your doors with out hitting the awning. I'm sure you could make a bracket to drop it lower.

I have an original Gunyah awning here, best Brisbane made roll out awning made when I bought it and the last of its type, sadly Oki (the owner) had to close up shop due to personal issues. I believe the Black Widow is now the closest to the Gunyah as they may of bought his gear.

Fair call vxwesty, that's one thing that scares me about buying cheap ones off eBay, you can't go into a dealer and order spare parts.

Ok more spin . Easy to attach tagalong or RV tents Extension for awning and has a easy to put up mesh room.

Hi Josh, I have had the ironman 2.5 m out awning and attached mosquito net for the past 5 years. The attached mosquito net makes a great play area for the kids. It has performed well and the only problem I have had is on the last Fraser Trip 1 of the pop rivets on the track failed, but that is an easy fix.
It has been good value for money however next time I am looking at one of the wing styles purely for the extra shade that you get.
            Cheers Matt

I've had a few people say unless its a short stop they run out of shade as the sun moves and would love a wing awning for that reason. Good feedback thanks Matt.

I'm not happy with the Oztrail awning from BCF. The locking mechanism on all the poles do not work reliably now. Slackdog came over the weekend and he also has the same problem with the same awning.

With out stating the obvious, you'd need to make the bracket waterproof. You might be able to utilise one of the current roof rack manufacturers mounts. Just as an example the Rhino RLCP23 bracket which is used to mount the pioneer platform onto the 150's, this provides the mounts to the roof, weatherproof shrouds and washers etc plus then you know the height to the top of the 'feet' are all level ready for your awning brackets and mounting screw point provided. Then when you take you awning off put on the supplied covers and all water tight. Hope the all makes sense. You'd have to do more research and way up the cost of the brackets (about $305) but just throwing it out there.

On the left the Rhino RLCP23 mount, note the front on looks high due to the slope of the roof line if you zoom in you may be able to see the rear ones, on the right factory rails.

Hope this you to create something that works for you.

One of our retail members Outdoors R Us has some awnings on their site :- http://outdoorsrus.com.au/awnings-and-tents/

Have no idea how good they are but they have a few options available. They haven't listed them on their PP store page yet, not sure if they offer a PP discount on any of them.

For my own needs I reckon a tarp hung off the roof rail and using a couple of old tent poles would work too. I don't want to hang anything permanently off the roof bars if I can help it as clearance in car parks then becomes an issue.

I've got a Foxwing and had it for over three years in all sorts of weather, I can't count the number of times it has been used and never a problem.

See ya on the tracks. Richo.

Had a MCC awning. Though the actual awning was good (similar to most 2.5m on the market) the straps and plastic clips that hold it rolled up broke. My other gripe with it was it didn't have enough velcro points to tension it along the horizontal pole. Ive pulled it off and have the new Ironman 2.5m with built in LED strip light. Have not tested it too much but so far so good and noticeable improvements over the above problems with the MCC.

                        Cheers,

I bought a 2.5X2 metre side-awning from Kulkyne Kampers. Had it shipped to my door from their online store. The owner of the business indicated that it was the same as the ones sourced by ARB and TJM. It didn't come with L brackets for mounting to my 2 Thule roof-bars, but I got these from ARB for $6 each (cheaper than Bunnings and the holes are already drilled to suit). Also got the mosquito net room to attach to assist with managing the bug factor. It was no drama to fit on the bars and is easy to attach and take off. I haven't used it on a trip yet but feel that if it is equivalent to ARB's product then it should work well. Got a good price for awning and net room. So far so good.

Thanks Amts, there's one to take off the list.

The inbuilt led sounds handy, disappointing that you've had to scrap your original one and start again.

I often feel that a lot on the market come out of the same factory, the mozzie net would be handy sometimes.

Just been thinking once we have the double and a single swag under a 2.5 m awning there won't be any other room to sit or seek shelter. The thing i like about the Foxwing is there is also protection at the rear door. Nothing worse than getting wet while trying to grab a beer.. Would you say they are value for money Richo? The supapeg one is dearer but you can peg down the poles, which looks handy. Too many options!

When fitting the Foxwing awning, you can have it so that that the rear door is covered by the awning as it swings a full 270 degrees. So yes, you can stay dry while you grab a beer. I certainly think it is excellent value for money.
