Cub Camper drawbar

Hi All! I have read somewhere about the Prado back doors and how with short camper drawbars the doors cannot be fully opened unless you unhook or jacknife the camper. Someone has suggested extending the drawbar but unsure if this is appropriate. I know if you order a longer bar when you first buy the camper it can happen but what about aftermarket?

I have a Cub Kamparoo off road. I made a new chassis which extends forward from the camper body. This gives a one piece integral frame carrying the Cub body, a row of 4 jerrycans and a huge aluminium storage box. This frame is welded in under the original Cub frame. The drawbar is mounted under the extended chassis. It protrudes 1100mm in front of the ally box. I can open the Prados door fully. It gives enough clearance to open the door at odd angles when bogged. I fitted Ford Utility rear suspension with KYB gas shocks which cost $120.00 complete with all hardware and KYB shocKs at the local wreckers. These 1.500m long springs give a far smoother ride. The extended chassis enabled me to relocate the axle forward for a much better balanced rig and comply with the Trailer rules.. The new HD axle has Landcruiser hubs and bearings with 6 stud hubs to take Prado 265x70 x17 tyres and wheels. The axle length is the same as my Prado120 so the tracks of Prado and trailer are identical. The total width is 1.900m the same as my Prado. I have achieved my goal of an offroad hard floor camper that is within 750kg target. The light weight and supple springs make it a breeze to tow up sand dunes and through bogs.This model Cub had a tare of only 400kg when new. As to Qld registration you reregister as Homemade With a new spec plate. No inspection or engineers cert was needed when I did mine.
