I did the update for MudmapsHD this morning, so now it is completely useless. The only maps that will come up are the world map and the topo maps, everything else just gives me a grid screen.................. OH and it crashes every minute or so.

    Thank god for Hema!

    Cheers Andrew

I think if Li has any sense he should back out now while he can. Oh and LI.... don't let the door hit you on the way out!

Hey andrew, just replied to your support email about the missing maps issue. I think it's caused by an issue with amount of spare storage on the device. A fresh install should fix this. It's a strange one, have had 2 reports about it after 4,000 updates so far. It's not unique but is an edge case. Look forward to getting a bit more info from you so I can have a deeper look into the issue.

Interactive Campsite POIs is a new feature that will set a new standard of discovering camping spots. It's based on Campee, a community generated directory of campsite and caravan parks in Australia.

Mud Map HD was never advertised to include this feature and won't receive this integration. But the alternative is to download the free Campee app from the app store. Since the database is shared, you get the same information.

You can also expect a new topo map to be included with the next Mud Map HD update due in a few weeks.

I've had Mud Map ''v1' for a 2 years. To say that I got what paid for is incorrect, because the app was almost unusable for the first 12 months. The real improvements only came into play last year. If Mud Map really cared about their customers they would have given people the option of upgrading to version 2 but loosing version 1 by means of automatically cancelling the version 1 registered devices. This way people who wish to keep v1 can and those who would prefer v2 would have the option. The money they could potentially 'loose' in people switching to v2 and having v1 access cancelled would be a lot less than what they are loosing now and having people switching to other apps. I FOR SURE won't pay for version 2. I would rather keep and outdated Mud Map V1 and pay money for a second product (Hema) than have 2 apps by the same company - Mud Map.

Something to think about MUD MAP !!!!!

I've never used Mud Map because we don't have any Apple devices. But I think you'll find the reason they can't do a lot of things is because of the restrictions that Apple place on the App Store. He's said above somewhere that he couldn't offer an upgrade price because the store won't let him. Whilst I'm not saying Mud Maps has handled it well, perhaps some of this anger should be directed at Apple and their restrictive App Store policies. It's great to come up with ideas on what could have happened - but if Apple won't let them happen then it is a bit pointless to criticise Mud Map for not implementing them.

I've been developing software for 20+ years now and it's really interesting how things have changed with iOS/Android App Stores. Before you would buy a program and get no updates unless you paid for them. If they released a new version you either paid up or kept using the old one. Now it seems everyone expects to pay less for the application and receive free updates forever. Putting my businessman hat on, I can't see how App developers make any money - something that is backed up by the stats which show most apps make nothing at all and it's only a small percentage of developers who get rich.

I recommend you buy the app and evaluate the quality of the product vs the price paid to get a understanding of the situation. We got an inferior product in the first case and are now asked to pay the same for improvements build on user feedback. Apple's rules was available long before the company in questioned entered the game - an inadequate pricing model can not be blamed on Apple.

That's fair enough, if you can let us know what makes Mud Map HD an inferior product, we can fix the issues.

Li I haven't bought your product and in all liklihood wont as I have the Hema on my ipads. However I make this point, you seem to be using this site to promote your wares, albeit you are getting flamed in the process. How about supporting the community here and become a corporate sponsor? At least that would show us that you are serious about your customers and this forum.

I got an email today informing me that I could now pay for Mudmaps 3 if I wanted it So I guess the rip off is going to continue.

I wonder how long before they stop supporting Mudmap2 and a software update makes that unusable and you have flushed the money you paid for that down the toilet as well?

Fortunately I didn't pay for MM 2, which is just as well as its mostly rubbish anyway, so I guess no great loss when it becomes unusable.

                      Cheers Andrew

I just had a look on the app store and I see that Hema 4WD maps has an average 2.5 star rating (out of 5). The most common rating is 1 star (the lowest possible). Seems like there are quite a few unhappy users of that software as well.

I've found Mud Map 2 to be quite good myself. Certainly a lot better than the Sensis maps provided with my Prado.

Find the comments on this thread amusing. I have Mudmaps 2 on my Ipad for about 2 years as well as Hema Explorer. Tend to prefer Mudmaps every time. Has worked flawlessly for me.

I have Mud Map 1 and are still using it on the latest IOS. I copied the .ipa backup of the app on my pc and install it manually with third party software. Still works like a charm. I have Hema Explorer and it failed me a few occasions on Fraser, even after downloading the map. I don't use the routing functions. Why is it so difficult to develop a proper app that puts you location on a map. I can't see myself investing any more money in these apps unless there is really a chance that I may get lost in the 'wild'

Have been running Hema on my iPad for a couple of years and could not be happier. Would also happily pay for any new reasonably priced maps I might need.if . So far has more than covered where I go. Earlier post in this thread suggestion that there were problems or gaps in the high country maps. There earlier last year and Hema was spot on. If I had input to the software development I would have done things a little different but it is more than good enough as is.

I purchased MUDMAP 2 a couple months ago, waited until woolies had a 20% off sale on ITunes vouches, so paid $80 for it. I have been very happy with it, until they brought out MUDMAP 3. They gave me a free update from 2 to 3, but they have changed the way you download maps, and have also stopped using the main map, "THE MAP". I have reverted back to MUDMAP 2 until they sort it out.
