Re: Comprehensive Insurance Coverage for Prado

My first post on this site.
I own a Prado 120 series V6. And i just insured it for agreed value with AAMI for 42 large, and its costing me 761 a year. And they basically said to me when i questioned them numerous times including going back to the Supervisor and the quote was " If the car is a Dedicated 4wd, then we have to insure it for its intended purpose of 4wding and therefore cannot knock back a claim if off road, unless you are racing offroad".
And i went over the PDS about 5 times before i hit the Pay button.
Reason i went well over the market value of 36000 was to cover the accessories that could not be recovered.

Re: Comprehensive Insurance Coverage for Prado

My insurance took an almost 30% hike this year and I haven't made a claim for about 20 years so I started shopping around. Whilst most of the biggies were all around 800 ('04 Prado, max NCB for approx $38k), Youi were about half everyone else. It's a major drop but I always get a bit worried when there's such a big difference from market. I've read the policy book & there are no restrictions about offroading.
Anyone got any claims feedback about this company?

I can relate to the unsureness of much lower premiums. I was nearly prepared to pay 1561 to NRMA (whom i have more than 3 policies with ) and then thought try elsewhere- AAMI-761.. Of course alarm bells went off but as i posted above, there was no catch to be found, so SOLD

Re: Comprehensive Insurance Coverage for Prado

Just changed from AAMI to Toyota insurance, AAMi was not really interested in insuring all the normal additonal 4WD additions like draws for an agreed value, car is only just 6 months old and the additions add up to approx. 10 to 12k above purchase price (provided itemised list) they agreed to cover the additional 10 k until renewel now that want the lot for an agreed value of the intial purchase priceand to charge approx. 900 for the privilge, Toyota when provide with same list and suspension heights agreed to cover full costs and also offer 3 year replacement with new car if written off or the agreed value, no exclusions for off road only the normal if you are racing / time trails etc no cover and they only charged 160 more then AAMI for an additional 13K cover. Now I am looking at moving the other 5 policies we have from AAMI to an insurer / insurers who works to look after the customer.
I would check the AAMI policy as they normally put that they will pay the agreed value or market value whichever is the lesser amount, of corse premiums are based on the agreed value

I tried AAMI but they didn't want to know me. Only a 50mm lift and my brake controller and All Terrain tyres were the mods I said I'd made & they said they wouldn't cover because of the modifications. God knows what they'd have said if I told them I'd changed the windscreen wiper & washers as well; I would probably have been blacklisted forever!

Re: Comprehensive Insurance Coverage for Prado

An interesting article in Feb Choice mag. re car insurance.

Ratings went from 89 GIO to 34 Just Car Insce. All had a no claim bonus.

Youi rated 63 but without a no claim bonus.

It pays to read the fine print :!: My daughter had to make a claim ($2500-) from Budget Direct (53)
She thought that they were nearly ready to knock back the claim as she had not notified the of a speeding fine some years ago

I'm with RAA in SA (87) and pay $531- with agreed value of $35000- on my "04 GXL which I think is fair. Cover anywere except racing.

Thats very interesting as mine is insured, along with the policy schedule having arrived and all paid for, along witht he 50 mm lift on the policy and they were fine with me- is it possible your location had something to with it? I just re-read my policy and it definitewly says raised suspension in modifications

Re: Comprehensive Insurance Coverage for Prado

I just completed the online quote with Youi insurance, and it came out at $576.00 for agreed value of $47000.00.

That is with my wife and I both having rating 1 history and both over 40 years old.
I am seriously considering changing over as this quote is just on $300.00 less than my present policy cost.
I haven't checked out the off road cover issues, or any mods we might make in the future such as 50mm lift etc.
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

Just insured our new 2010 Prado with RACQ. We have rating 1, live in Ballina NSW. For an agreed sum insured of $68000.00 and all extras etc covered, the premium is $410.00 with a $500 excess........a lot cheaper than most quotes on here...give them a go!!

Australia Post has entered the insurance market: http://www.auspost.com.au/insurance.

Also, for a limited time and other conditions, NRMA will beat lowest documented quote by another 10%.

I'm currently with NRMA, but the Auspost quote I saw online was very competitive.

Be sure to read the PDS before taking out any insurance.

                      Cheers,

Just tried them out by doing a quote.. for my 98 rv6... gave me 500 annual then I added 3500 grand worth of accessories which is pretty cool that the can let you do that on the net and my premium became 450.. not sure if they got this insurance thing worked out yet!!

Nowhere on the quote can I see an insured value which I don't like but there is

                            "Cover
Standard Comprehensive (Market Value)" which could be whatever they decide on the day I make a claim..

I'd be very hesitant insuring a car for market value if it is in better condition than average as i've been stung before
