There seems to be a shortage of bars from ARB at the moment and has been for at least a month.

AAMI did everything they could and when we realized Toyota cannot supply a bar, they paid me out in less than 7 days from the time of the accident. They did more than what I expected but I guess it is easy if they just bill everything to the other guy's insurance. It is ARB that annoys me at the moment. Can't see why I have to wait 6-7 weeks to get a bar.

Sorry about that Boomslang, must be all us 150 owners clogging up the system, I waited 10 weeks from date of order to fitment for mine, still I have had numerous bars on 4WD's and am very happy with the result so far.

been arguing with AAMI for the last few weeks, regarding the new 12mth cover...

          they dropped $ 3600 of the value of my prado, ( was $ 36,200 ) and up' d the payment to $ 102 mth ( was $ 90 )

 after a lot of whnging , the best they will do is market value $ 33, 360 for $ 97. 63 month
my prado has 117653 kms ... full car hire till repairs completed, ( not just 2 weeks ) .. 1 free windscreen , covered off road use Australia wide.

:?: how does this equate to your policy, butane?

            • Just got a quote from Budget Direct. For my 2005 V6 GXL and it came in at $1024 (fully comp). Includes 15k worth of upgrades. I couldnt get an agreed value, but the market value for it is from 22k-38k. Then asked why i couldnt get agreed value and was told that the 38k end of the market vale, was for all the upgrades. Was originally $875 untill I told them about the 2" lift..... Also asked about where i was covered and their answer was anywhere. Any track, beach or private property. As long as it is being used what it is designed for. Just wondering if this price sounds about right??

              • Be careful and read the policy CAREFULLY and get advice on it
Insurance is OK until you need to make a claim...
Also, be careful on what you post in any forum, these posts can be used as evidence....
Sold the Prado. Now FJ Cruiser

                  • Sorry Bourkey, BUT I don't trust these no name insurance companies, I was asked a million questions (not by who you mentioned) one being when I asked the wading depth. I was told what ever my book says. I said so if I do a river crossing and its up to bonnet height and it stalled and obviously water will get into vehicle and more then likely ride it off am I covered ?? Um sir you are covered for the wading depth, so Ill take that as a No then. Where will the vehicle be garaged ?? at my house, some times in the garage possibly in the carport !! So which one carport or garage ?? possibly either !! Well we need to know to give a quote, lets say the carport that is more open !! Does it have gates ?? At this point I hung up. As Jon has said , be very carful and fully read the policy including for off road.... Im with NRMA....Cheers Steve (WARNNG) Also meant to say be very careful with market value, could be 30k today 20k tomorrow. I always have agreed value on all my vehicles....

Many outsiders not registered on this forum, actually read it for ideas, and that includes people from insurance companies and the Roads and Traffic Authorities from various states.

The warning from Jon is for your information, and for the info. of other newbies on this forum.

I got my insurance from Toyota insurance. $740 fully comp. They insure you on any gazetted road (Roads or tracks that are on maps) and also will cover me if I go to the Landcruiser Park. So I've been told. Comes with 2 year new vehicle replacement.

                        • I am looking at this in the near future. I am more interested in the specifics relating to real 4wd usage. Gazetted roads - does this cover the beach at Fraser? I will be very specific moving on and will consider my luggage (considering I have about $5K of kit).

That said, I am currently with AAMI, rating 1 for life, yada yada yada and made my first ever claim. I must say the customer service was very good. The claim was in the suburbs and not off road.

A mate went to Cape york and did a diff, made a claim and was covered. That is what I want!!!.

Suggest there was more to the story considering mechanical breakdown is usually not insured.

                              • Was checking my insurance policy renewal today and QBE have changed the way they do things and as a result half of the value of my accessories won't be covered. My agreed value (including mods etc) went from $60,000 to $50,000.

Accessories cannot be more than 30% of the value of the vehicle. Mine is valued at around $40,000 for 2009 D4D GXL manual. By Apr this year my mods and accessories will be $24,000.

I have completed an online quote with DGA and TCIS as I will require full off road cover.

Does anyone else know of an insurer that can cater my requirements?
