I'm with APIA & last premium was $547 on cover of $61K Agreed Value.

Excess $450. Must be some value in being a little older.

I beg to differ. As mentioned in previous post, most standard insurance companies cover the car anywhere in Australia. It would only be a very, very basic policy or very, very cheap policy that would only cover on gazetted/public roads, and I'm yet to see one.

Again, if the insurance company/broker/anyone you're talking to about insurance says that off road driving is not covered, ask them to show you exactly where in the PDS it states so. And if it does, simple - go elsewhere, there are plenty of standard policies that cover you.

          Sleekr.
I went through the exercise - was insured with RACV - checked with them via phone about the marked road thing. Was told that covered if the road is on a map, "you'll be covered as long as you aren't being negligent etc " "Can I have that in writing?" I say .....long pause, check with underwriter, put on hold "They say that they won't put it in writing, my name is Mary & we hold all taped phone calls for 7 years....." Not good enough, CGU, written on the policy "Anywhere in Australia" as my concern was if you had to go around an unexpected hazard - large fallen tree, a bogged 4wd etc and had to get off the road, and you came to grief would you be covered by the other insurers, the sceptic in me says no......
Wherever you go..there you are, it's just more comfortable getting there in the Prado....

Just got an answer back from Vero re insuring my '05 GXL 2" lifted auto.

NO! Lifted means the vehicle is modified and they wouldn't insure it!!

            On goes the search.

dirttracker, try CGU, I had a GQ Patrol with a 2" lift amongst a number of mods, no problem.

Just got a quote from Shannons (I have a low-km policy on my other toy with them) $600 excess, $640 policy. Agreed value $58k. It's a weekend warrior policy, 150 days use a year, which suits us fine, it's a 'trip' car, not a daily driver. Will probably take that.

Shannons gives free windscreen per year and other 'enthusiast' stuff, happy so far with the other policy, but not had to claim yet either...

I ended up at TCIS with a policy underwritten by Lumley special vehicles. I could find anyone else to cover a lifted prado! I wish I had tried Shannons because I paid over $900 for $42000. A book value of 39000 + 12000 in accessories vastly devalued to the value stated. Comes with windscreen and no claim cover.

                  Oh well, next year!

Just renewed with AAMI after having a good look around.

                    50+ driver, 60% no claim
                    2004 TD Prado $40k
                    Plus $10k accessories ($50k total)
                    $1,065pa

Was a cheaper quote than TCIS, which was surprising.

                            Hi guys,

Has anyone tried Toyota insurance? We picked up our new D4D last week and were offered Toyota insurance (we have been with AAMI). The policy looks very similar to AAMI in most respects but is $150 cheaper and they have new car replacement for 3 years (instead of 1 year for AAMI). The new car replacement even applies if a new model has come in (which is relevant to us given a new model in the next few years expected).

I asked them about whether the cover includes off-roading/beach etc and they said "so long as you are legally allowed to be there you are covered".

Has anyone tried Toyota insurance and what do you think of them??? Maybe I am naieve but maybe if your insurance is through the car company they might (I say might) treat you better to keep your business!!!

They are underwritten by Aioi Insurance Co Ltd.

                            Thanks,
                            Nick

Get that in writing first... Wouldnt be the first time a car salesperson or aftermarket rep has "said" something..

Mine is lifted, the old ATS billstien setup. AAMI is aware and said as long as it was no more than 50mm it was OK.
