  • Hey Guys.. I sold my 120 petrol. and looking for new beast

My budget 30-40k. I do lots of fishing, camping, offroad. I dont want to buy 120 again. I love prado and would like to get diesel one. I cant get a 150 with low km and good condition with in 30-40k budget. So I am looking at Fj Cruiser 2012 models. How much would it be different and am I missing out on anything big by getting Fj Cruiser over diesel prado?

Exactly that DIESEL, FJ's don't come in a diesel yet. You might be able to get a & 76 series wagon for low to mid $40K which would almost be an ex mining car (might want to be cautious with that)

FJ Cruiser! I honestly don't know who designed that (cough) 4x4 (cough)! imo it has to be the ugliest looking vehicle I have ever seen since the 1st of the Ford Taurus's.(I am also pretty sure the 1st Taurus was the last) I think the FJ Cruiser will fall away as It has not been very popular in the sales figures.
If you are after a diesel but cant afford the 150 series Prado, go back to the later "09" 120 series. Best bang for your buck I reckon. I love my 120 and would only part with it to do a 150 series upgrade once I have killed the 120!
I got a VX for 38K. Has the leather and a few bells and whistles.
120 also after a few mods will make a statement when driving down Oxford Street! "Get outta my way" as apposed to the FJ! "Hop in sweetheart" :-)

          Just my opinion!

The FJ is a very capable vehicle. The V6 aside, it has a shorter wheelbase, comes std with 265/70R17 tyres, has std rear locker, wash out interior. The 2013 model now comes with an extra fuel tank totalling 159L.

Regarding the V6, many people seems to think that they are fuel guzzlers. However, fuel is only a small portion of running costs. I read the costs of replacing diesel injectors and it scares me. So if you are not regularly towing, the FJ would be well suited.

The FJ is being canned in the US in 2014.

That will be impressive. No wonder we can't compete, cannot imagine Golden Circle or Campbells being able to offer that!

I personally would not mind being able to buy a car in a can and just add water (assuming the can costs as much as the other cans alongside it on the supermarket shelf).

Mm, what you describe as your perfect 4x4 is a 120 Diesel, but you say you don't want another 120? As the FJ does not come in a HJ (Diesel) this is out too, unless you are happy wqith FJ? I'd suggest a Diesel 4Runner turbo but they stopped making those to bring in the Turbo Prado. You are making this hard

                      Ummm, Nissan?

Richo used to call them FG@^s until he realised that in stock form they could easily out perform a kitted out Playdoh with pink plasma rope
Ok, I now drive an FJ Cruiser but did have an 90 series Prado for 11 years and before that, 4Runners from 1985.

I will probably have to sit in the corner and wash out my mouth but Mitsubishi has the LS Model Challenger (diesel) for under $40K for EOFYS which includes all the usual terrain assistance and a rear locker
