  • Upgraded mattress for your CT?

    Hi All

    Not having a Camper Trailer sub-forum (I know, I know...go to MySwag) - I'll post this here.

For those that have upgraded the mattress on their CT, what did you install and have you found it an improvement.
Our CT has the bog standard foam mattress, but as it will be our home for 12 months we thought we might want something a bit more...well like home.
I've got a queens size self inflater which is comfortable - and we've got one of those memory foam/latex jobs at home but I hate to even think about the cost of one of those for the CT.

What have PP'ers added to make their nights a bit more comfy?

    Thanks

    Trev

I have seen 1 to 2 inch memory foam mattress toppers at camping shows, for around $200 queen size that you could overlay on your self-inflator. Would add a touch of luxury without increasing weight too much.

Just google memory foam mattress topper - for example: http://www.crazysales.com.au/memory-...FUodpQoddzoAFw

We are also looking at a new CT mattress after the weekend away, Rolling into the middle and finding the pillow 6 inches higher is a little annoying :-)

I had thought of a memory foam /inner spring matress(db) Have people used them? They come all rolled and expand on opening, figure they may do the same each time the camper goes up and the tent and poles are lifted up?

Also know you can get 4 inch thick mattresses for c'vans etc.

We have a 15cm innerspring queen with a 2" memory foam topper - more comfy than most holiday lets and hotels.

When I built my camper I had a custom slimline inner spring mattress made by a mattress manufacturer in Adelaide, elite bedding company on Port road. When we go to bed in the camper it feels exactly the same as what we sleep on at home

I wish this thread came up earlier, I upgraded our mattress in the camper we recently purchased. I got a slightly thicker foam mattress in firm. We are going to add a sheepskin pillow top to it though for a little more comfort for this trip either way it beats my old swag. But reading others suggestions I might get a inner spring Queen made to size for us in the future.

              Thanks guys.

Plenty of different set-ups there. I'm leaning towards incorporating the self-inflater somehow as it gives us a bed if we sleep away from the trailer.
              Please keep the ideas coming.

We bought one of these Trev from Redcliffe, great nights sleep on an inner spring mattress for the camper and we also bought from DJ's a feather and down (I am ashamed to say that like I know what it is, damn my wife and Shangri La hotels) pillow topper, very comfy nights sleep.

I remember the days I went camping with a swag, esky, $30 BBQ and a torch... Now we take everything including the kitchen and bathroom sink.

I remember going camping in scouts when we only took a canteen of water, a box of matches and a can of spaghetti. We built bivouacs and slept in what we were wearing. Those were the days

Trev, I'd think anything would be an improvement on a self inflater! I have the foam matress that came standard. This wasn't great, but not wanting to spend the big bucks on a new inner spring, I added a foam topper, this has made a great improvement. But I'm not sure you can go past an inner spring for comfort.

I bought an inner spring from Makin Mattresses. I think they call it a Hotel mattress, heaps heaps better than the foam jobie that came with the trailer. Get a good nights sleep now without the sore back.

Try Beds Direct, a Melbourne based company, will custom make a mattress if required.

Have one in the caravan, better than any van mattresses I've seen before, and would never sleep on a foam mattress again (foam does not help my hip pain)

Yep we are on an inner spring mattress. Much more comfortable on the back etc ....and so much cooler in summer than foam / sheepskin.
It's not the best mattress in the world (ie inexpensive) but best option by far.
