I spent 6 weeks on our last trip pointing out 76 cruisers to Trish trying to plant the seed for an upgrade down the track, it's not looking good tough

Mind you if I mention a 200 series then I get a much more favorable reaction, other than the how are you going to pay for it bit probably be a 300 series by the time I am allowed to replace the Prado!

    Cheers Andrew

This week our local dealer had a brand new 6 wheeled V8 king cab LC Workmate utility. The tray was about 4 metres long and had 2 massive tool boxes fitted on either side behind the cab. It ran black sunraysia style rims with Mickey T muddies, full bull bar and scrub bars to steel sidesteps. Built for a local drilling outfit. The service girl reckoned it was built by Toyota but I don't think so. It didn't have any body builder branding only a "5750" sticker on the drivers door under the Workmate sticker. It sure looked like a tough beast but I reckon the wheelbase and overall length would cause me some grief out bush. I'll try and grab a photo and post it.

I tried to convince Trish the 76 would be as comfortable as the Prado but doesn't believe me. When she drops our cars in too be serviced the owner usually drives her to work and picks her up in his 200 Sahara, so she knows how comfortable they are

Solid axles, factory lockers, easy GVM upgrade in the 76 though, who need comfort I think I have 4 or 5 years to work on her.

            Cheers Andrew

A mate of mine has an immaculate 80 series that he has kept in superb condition for the last 15 years or so. Has pretty much everything that opens and shuts. He is seriously looking at replacing that with a 76 wagon in preparation for a lllooooonnnnnnggggg lap of the island.

I haven't ridden in one so cannot comment on the quality of the ride but they are a bit spartan. Though sitting in a Defender 90 and 130 the other day reminded me that everyone else has progressed a long way from their roots!

I have had my 76 for 2 months now and it will never be as comfortable as a prado, and also seriously lacking in creature comforts & noisy. I personally prefer spartan things in general, less to go wrong IMO. Plus all the weight saved not having things like electric everything/leather. I like the seating position, great visibility especially compared to both mums & the work 120 prados, seems good off road even without the lockers engaged & don't even get me started on the motor!

I am impressed with the ride, not anywhere near as bad as I was expecting. After coming out of 4 coil sprung patrols I was expecting a bone shaking old Hilux type ride. Front end is much better than a patrol, rear is obviously stiffer, but nothing like a hilux. Will see how it is after a 2" lift goes in, but at the moment I am a happy man. Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

That makes for a huge vehicle. Does it spend all its time in the bush?

You've got a job ahead of you there, Andrew. The main reason I first bought a Prado was because my wife wanted something more comfortable than my 80 series. Good luck!

They push their own roads with a D10 bulldozer and also drive in huge 8 wheeler drill rigs so getting around for them won't be a problem. Not a suitable bush basher for us mere mortals me thinks.

                        • I upgraded my 2011 TD GXL 150 to a 2013 200 GXL TTD V8. Not as many features and gadgets inside, but overall a better vehicle. Is it $30K better than a Prado ... No!!!

We needed extra room and grunt for towing, so made sense.

bus. But still like my prado for the serious duty stuff.

I know a bloke with one of those and he loves it.

I'd look at one if I was getting out of the Prado!

                              • A mate of mine is dead set on a Defender 110. He has been passing a keen eye over the military ones for sale. No matter how much I try, I can't convince him otherwise. He reckons a Prado is way to luxurious.
