Problem is worse than expected......
Went up on the hoist this morning, found the chassis broken.....
s**t!!!!!!!!!!!

The local Toyota dealer has had an engineer look at the vehicle.
The engine mount has ripped out of the chassis and the whole left side of the chassis had dropped and is bent and twisted.
The vehicle is basically a write off.
The insurance assessor will look at it next week.
So, now stranded in Kunanarra

Also, checked out Ondaboat's Prado. great looking vehicle

Geez sorry to hear about your dramas Jon. There would never be a good time to find out that kind of stuff, but mid holiday really is a huge kick in the ass. I really feel for you mate.

From experience...

Insurance will cover a collision. So a collision with an unusually large washout is covered, whereas lots of little collisions, such as a rutted road is wear and tear, and unlikely to be covered.

That really sucks Jon, I'm fairly certain the chassis isn't allowed to be welded to repair it so a write off sounds likely.

Hopefully it works out for you, not a nice thing to happen on your holiday.

I guess there was more than just the mount breaking to cause that degree of damage, though prolonged driving with the problem along the CSR would not have helped.

good thing you got it to kununurra as i use to work in halls creek for halls creek toyota ( baz indutries) not sure if they're still there but some of the dodgy stuff that happened at that place was unbelievable , and you could have got something air freighted there had flights every day.

Jon do you have the nsw version of RACQ whatever it is?? I know with my cover I can get a free hire car (for up to 10 days I think) & arrangements made for free transporting of stranded trailers for situations like yours. If you have the same kind of cover maybe you could get them to arrange a 4wd hire car & you could continue on to Sydney towing the trailer yourself. Just a thought anyway.

Can only get car hire locally, they will not do one way.
Have packed up all my camping gear onto a pallet for shipping back to Sydney.
Our Prado is a write off....
All flights are booked out, so have to travel via bus to Darwin, then fly to Sydney.
Waited until today for the assessor to turn up as promised, only to be told that he was not coming, as they did not realise that Kununurra is in WA ffs.
Sad to see a vehicle that I have spent many years and dollars on, go to the wreckers....
