  • What's the bet Coles and Woolies will circumvent the situation by offering "purchase for points of discount vouchers"......in essence (as they will say) people are buying in.

So maybe you "buy" a 20 cents a litre discount for 1000 Fly Buys points or something like that......you can bet their backroom financial wizards will be looking at all the options

They were doing this prior to the ACCC agreement, they may have stopped this now though.

          • Well I notice the end of fuel discounts > 4c/L hasn't dropped the price of fuel, it just seems to keep going up. $1.50.9c/L for ULP was the cheapest I could find online in my area today and that was at a BP (no discounts there). Woolies/Caltex was a $1.51.9c/L but couldn't find Coles/Shell price online.

I saw the Current Affair segment where they said Coles and Woolies were now offering half price discounts on certain grocery items now they have all this extra cash to play with through not offering bigger fuel discounts. These are not things I buy though (have no use for a 4L tub of icecream), would much rather have my fuel vouchers thanks.

That's probably because of the drop in exchange rate.

              • I agree, would also much rather have fuel vouchers. I see on flybuys they also removed the deal for extra 10cent a litre off fuel for a 1000 points. I regularly used the 40c savings with an extra 10c on top. Saved $75 on a fill-up for the Prado.

Is that something you had to activate? I haven't seen that offer come into my Inbox.

I paid $147.9 with the 4c discount the other day, was running on fumes so had to fill up.

                    • Yeah but the prices at coles express should make your hair curl..
10c off 100 ltrs equals $10 but you need to spend $20 to get it. Thats a lot of $2milk...

Aren't a lot of the Coles express prices the same as the supermarket prices? We don't have Coles express around here but I know I bought milk from the one outside Karratha as it was the $1 a litre like in the supermarket.

When you drink as much milk as I do $20 worth will barely get me through the week

                        Cheers Andrew

                        • Well I just saw it advertised so it's not an invitation only thing. Some items sold at Coles Express are at supermarket prices like your staples of bread and milk, it's the other stuff that can be pricey. It's 14c off a litre if you also have a 4c docket which equals $14.00 per 100 litres. If you have some groceries to but anyway it might be worth doing since the fuel discount mostly pays for them.

                          • I knew they'd find someway around the no discount past 4C a litre deal.

Guess it's not a bad deal IF you need to spend $20 on milk / bread

It seems the ACCC has taken a dim view of the workaround :-

I just put $260 in mine. luv it! That great fuel! It must be good at 1.60 a litre.

Yes we get screwed, no more big discount & still same customers still going to Coles & woollies, to get 4c
                                So what did it achieve?
We get to pay more, = much more gst for governments to blow.
                                That's life
