Its been in the news that the fuel war has started or at least intensified. Just did my shopping at Coles and received a 42c per L discount. Tank is near empty, so looking forward to a near $60 discount. Insane, but I like it. This particular offer I received via email and had to be activated, but worthwhile looking/waiting for these. Is the offer limited to 100 litres? I know most are. Unfortunately can't use my motor pass fuel card with a discount voucher, apart from at Apco (local independent). I don't mind the 10 cent a litre discount for Apco when I buy a slab and a bottle of wine from the local bottle shop! But 42 c a litre is nuts! Are Coles and Woolies just having a massive pissing contest or what?150 with stuff bolted on!

How much do you guys spend in groceries to get those sorts of discounts? Best i have managed with Coles has been 0.20c per litre which isn't to be sneezed at. Lately it has been around 16c and i usually shop with Coles for around $200 per shop. Maybe Tassie is special and doesn't get the mega discounts...2009 White KDJ120R Manual fitted out for family camping and touring - See my Rig Build at http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27887-Smithy-s-Rig-Build

42c discount is not to be sneezed at these days when you're filing up 180L, but to offer that much surely means they will make it up elsewhere. We've noticed that shopping is costing us more since the fuel discounts started.
Coles and Woolies are only in the business of making money, so what they give us in one area, they make back plus more somewhere else.
Having said that, if I could get 42c per L off I would jump at it.04 GXL - Red Centa dual battery, Alloy B/bar, BFG AT's, Rhino Rack commercial bars x 3, GME TX3540, TJM roof cage, Outback Ideas recovery points, LHS rear drawer, 2" Dobinsons/Bilstein lift, ARB CKMA12 air compressor, CoilRite airbags, ARB 2.5m awning, MCC Dual Wheel Carrier, Eagle Eye headlights with 55w hid lo beam.

The discounts are usually a promotion offer, and usually associated with a supplier, Coca Cola often being one.Cheers Jim.

The discounts are an illusion. It makes you feel as though you are making a saving when in reality you are not. Sure, if you don't have the discount, you pay more at the pump but again this is part of the illusion.
The discounts are indeed timed with the fuel price cycles. It's all part of the game.
It's quite a trick - to make consumers believe they are getting a good deal and be happy for it, even though they are really being ripped off.
IMHO the retail fuel arrangements with the big two supermarket chains is a consumer scandal of epic proportions. First you flood the market, then you control the market, then you create the perception of a market, then you rip everyone off every day, and every now and then you bring the profits down to normal creating the perception of being fair. Once you dominate the market and control everything - price setting, smart marketing, inflated price margins, coordinated price cycles - game over to the consumer.[B]ntp

The most recent Fly Buys offer I've received is 30c/L for $170 spend, less for less of a spend. Last time I used one of these it was 18c/L and I put about 130 L in the tank. I try and hang on to them till the price drops a bit, luckily they come up often enough that my plan works for the most part.
