I'll take any discount I can. we don't get much choice on where we can shop. We have IGA expensive and not much choice or go to TP Coles 160km round trip they give me a discount we've had up to 40c off it makes it worth while to go. The best or worst full I've had was 167lt at 1.799 a lt

          Smoke and mirrors.

          Do the maths:

          My wife as example:

$30 spend to get the discount (4 cents) then puts 44lts in her Astra at todays Adelaide price for unleaded which costs $70.
Total spend $100 save $1.76.... total of 1.76% off the total spend. Wow, not worth walking across the mall for.

          Me as example:

Spend $250 in store to get 40 cent discount, then fill my Prado with diesel at todays Adelaide price. 160lts of which 150lts has the 40 cent discount.
Total spent $514 save $60, great.... until you realise that's 11.67% saved off the total spend and the best you can do.

Not massive discounts and for the higher ones (20 and 40 cents) Woolies/Coles have basically set the shopping budget for those that are less savvy with their money and they are spending money to save money.. sheep to the corporate machines.

Sure, everything helps and something is better than nothing but only if you are not spending extra money just to get higher discount.

            True Mick

Our case it's cheaper to shop at Coles. Food is better quality, cost less, plus get fuel discount. Would. be a different case as you have said in the city where you have a choice of who you shop with.

Today it is $1.48/L for 95 oct e10 and $1.52 for diesel at our local United Fuel servo. At Coles and Woolies it is $1.68 for 98 Oct unleaded, and $1.62 for diesel. Even with the current 8c/L off I'm still way better off not shopping at Coles or Woolies.

Crooza their is a massive difference between the e10 u r quoting and the 98 octane V power fuel u r comparing it too, if u going to make comparsions at least us products that are in the same league.
We got your message the first time that u hate australian supermarkets..

Not much competition in Darwin for cheap fuel. Managed to get woolworths discount last Friday 0.15 Li discount and saved $15.00 on about 110 Li . However noticed today that fuel up here has now gone up to $1.72 Li up 0.4 cents from last week

I had to quote them cause they don't have E10, but if you want me to quote normal unleaded then it is still cheaper than the other 2.
I can also quote that United have 100 octaine cheaper than 98 octaine at Coles.
I also quoted the E10 because It is cheaper and a higher octaine than what the other 2 can offer. And just look at the price of diesel as a comparison.

                      • There was a deal that shopping over $100 and you will get a 15c offer last week at my local woolies, went to shopping yesterday and been told the government has asked the shop to stop these offers, so no more fuel offer but the 4c ones for now....at least around my area...

                          • We've been paying 169.9cpl for the last three years here in tom price for diesel (being a one servo town),I remember having a similar discussion with a couple of workmates a few years ago and back then Para was cheaper ( when I still had my 80 series) I couldn't see the advantage of doing a 160Km round trip and use 1/2 a tank of fuel in the process to save a few cents a litre. All this was prior to Coles bringing out their fuel vouchers.

The worst I've ever paid for fuel was at Nanutarra Roadhouse which a few years ago was charging $2.70 a litre (1990's).

                            cheers,

that is a lot to pay back in the 1990's! however after looking up where Nanutarra is, it might be understandable.

i had friends that worked at he Warakurna Roadhouse last year, but i never thought to ask them what the price of fuel was.

                              • Hey Guys

So what are everyone's thoughts on the new law and deals between Coles and Woolworths and the Government to limit fuel discounts to 4c.

Grocery prices are rising, Fuel prices are constantly rising but the good old government had to step in and cap the discount..

                                See articles below:

The old 150L fill up is going to hurt more than ever!!
