  • LED torch recommendations

My trusty Xstreem LED torch seems to have suffered a premature death after the batteries leaked. I have cleaned it up as best as possible and replaced the batteries but it won't switch on, looks like it's borked now. I used to keep it in a pouch in the door bin, maybe it got moisture inside it through condensation.

Any suggestions for a decent torch for the Prado? I'm not after something that will drop planes from the sky, just a reasonably compact torch for peering under bonnets, etc in the dark. My old torch is ~230mm long so something about that size would be good.

Would I post it if it wasn't

$37 for the torch only at Bunnings, $10 for the batteries, you do the maths

        Then you can do this

Fido these are awesome, very bright and good if you want to use your hands for something else.........(and that wasn't meant to be dirty lol)

You can get them in rechargeable and non rechargeable versions, you can also get them cheaper than this link. it was just the first one to pop up to show you.
Just get it from a reputable place though, because they're so popular there are some knockoffs out there.

The Led Lensers are good gear. I found these at the green shed and haven't looked back. Cheap enough that you can keep a few around the place and nice and compact, having a separate battery pack in my Petzl gave me the sh!ts.

              BTW I have a bit of a torch/light fetish

Fido I have been using LedLenser LED lights for a while. P7, P14, H7 and H14. Had issues with a switch again with battery leakage. I think the inside of the torch was damp and that contributed to the problem. I have just bought a NiteCore EA4 and it is similar to the P7 though takes AA batteries so it is a bit chunkier. Similar distance but the EA4 throws out a wider beam. There are posts on Whirlpool that suggest other types as well. The EA4 was pretty cheap at around $80 delivered from the US of A.

I vote for Led Lenser too. I have a p7, p14, p17, 2 x h14r's and the underwater one and they are an amazing piece or lighting technology. My next purchase will be an x21r.

I thought maglites were good tip I bought my p7 and have never looked back!

Maybe a bit dearer than you want but the wolfeyes torches (http://wolfeyes.com.au/) are just outstanding and I have been using them for many years.
I have this one in the Prado and it is extremely bright (over 1000 lumens) and it has amazing reach.

Yes and it makes it discrete and quick to grab if needed

I'll second the Wolf-eyes. The Sniper II is a great torch. It has 3 intensity settings plus strobe. The rechargeable battery lasts for ages and doesn't have a memory. We have these at work and now nobody uses the Maglites any more. I also have a Seal Hunter which I clamp onto my hunting rifles. It's deadly to the vermin and shines over 400 metres. The sales team are great and efficient to deal with.

Had a look at the P7s on eBay, big disparity in pricing so bet a lot of them are fakes.

They look good but are a bit out of my price range.
