  • Sleeping Bag Recommendation

I am looking for a new sleeping bag and want some feedback.
    Important factors are:
    1. SIZE COUNTS. I'm 6'1" I HATE being cramped up either longitudinally or laterally. My belly needs room.
    2. Quality zip that doesn't break
    3. Must be hooded. Its happening bro and dis bag haz to be in da scene. (I like the warmth around my ears)

That;'s about it, prefer no more than $130, but its not too important.

mlc - cold and preparing for the doghouse and camping trips.

Not many people know that Oztent make a sleeping bag and it is awesome. Not something you take hiking due to size, get a down bag for that, but for 4wding or swagging you can't beat it. It has a zip in fleece liner to keep you extra warm and you can unzip it so you can wash it rather than washing the whole bag. It is not made of nylon so doesn't make noise at night. The XL is made for the 'larger' man. I could go on but do yourself a favour

                  Escape outdoors, South Pole two.

Available through rays, around the $100 mark rated to -11, jumbo size, comfy for the bigger man!

I bought one for my swag, was so happy I bought another two for the camper.
                  Excellent bag for the money.

Another vote for the "beast". Zero deg at Wilpena recently and was toasty warm - though Dr Bundaberg may have helped.

I got some Pilbara C-3 Sleeping bags for our trip down to Alice, and Yulara this year, as some of the others have, it has a zip in fleece as well so easy to clean and you can take it out if it isn't so cold. Main thing I liked it was big for 200x100 so fit me in well as I'm pretty tall as well. I also liked that it was a flannel material so it wasn't noisy when you moved around and it added to the comfort of the bed with it's thickness.

I have an older Roman rated at -10. I also use a military surplus (polite term for something that I never handed back when I discharged) sleeping bag liner. It's designed to go inside the bag but I usually use it on the outside for those really cold and windy nights just like on the GTG last year when my tent disintegrated. In the swag I will open the sleeping bag up and use it like a doona rather than getting into it. As for zipping sleeping bags together - maybe if I was 19 again and SWMBO resembled Jennifer Hawkings.

Good point Bushy, on the zipping together I mean. I just need to see if Jen likes camping before putting too much emphasis on the point though.

Jen?? As in Hawkins? Are we likely to hear stories of sleeping bag malfunctions now?
