  • Maxis Bighorns - Anyone use them?

Not looking to start a pissing contest about your favourite tyre. I simply want to know about user experiences with Maxis Bighorn muddies.

My BFG A/Ts are wearing out and my camper has new Maxis so I'm thinking of making all the tyres the same but are they any good?

Hi Malcolm, I don't use them , but a few of my mates have them. They've been really happy with them, the only reason I didn't get them was they were only $50 cheaper than the MTZs. But my mates have been really happy.

We were running them on our old pajero. They were pretty good when new but as they start to wear they get really noisy on the bitumen. We also had trouble with them wearing unevenly but that could be due to something with the car. Overall not too bad for the price but I honestly much prefer the mickey thomsons that we now have on the prado.

As u said, this can be from not rotating them & not having the proper wheel alignment and will happen with any tyre.... I run them on my Vitara and they have copped a hard life in the bush & rock and I love them and would get them again if price was good but there are other tyres of similar price just as good..... ie Federal Couragia are a good tyre. The only thing I don't like about the Maxxis is the large white writing on the side. I would put this on the inside where u don't see it....

I added bighorns to my 120 series not long ago in 285/70/17 after previously having them on a rodeo i had
they wear great and are priced well they have a small amount of road noise which i only notice if sum1 points it out
and i think they perform well offroad and onroad

I have a set on the prado and had a set on the hilux, ,mainly due to the cost.
I found provided that you keep up the regular tyre rotations (all 5) the wear will be even and noise reduced.
I have done 40-45,000 on them and I would estimate around 60% tread easily still on them.

Ive been using them for a few years now, on my previous BT50 and now the Prado. I love them, but they are NOISY!

They have never let me down. If you shop around, they can be had for great prices.

I run the 764's on my 120 after putting them on my Hilux, They are a great tyre and only as noisy as the next muddy.

I rotate them every 5000k's to keep the wear even and never have wear issues. Id suggest putting the white writing on the inside as its hideous but thats personal preference.
