  • Hello there from Arnhem Land

    Hello

Just thought I would pop by and say hello seeing that I joined up a few years back, never posted and have recently been scrolling through looking for a few answers to questions.

Anyway I have a 2003 GX Prado manual diesel that I bought with 147 000ks on the clock back in 2009. It's pretty much stock standard except for...
    * EFS suspension upgrade 6 weeks after I got it.
    * 20 inch Rigid Industries Light Bar in 2011 (best thing we ever did! Love that light bar!)
    * GME UHF which the auto electrician did a crap job installing and we've recently ripped it out.
    * No name brand in dash DVD/GPS/CD combination thingo, worst $500 spent, bought off and installed by not too crash hot auto electrician mentioned above.
    * Not sure of the brand electric brake controller installed last year to override the trailer mounted electric brake unit on the horse float.
    * Iron Man Snorkel.

Not a lot else to do with it besides upgrading the rims (which is what brought me to Prado point )

Absolutely love my Prado It took on a camel 6 weeks after I bought it AND WON, did countless trips out to a place called Kintore 530ks west of Alice Springs and for the last 4 years it has gone back and forth across Cahills Crossing more times than I care to count. In 2011 I bought a custom built Nandor 2 Horse Straight Load extended horse float which it tows like an absolute dream. This horse float clocked up a good 20 000kms behind the Prado in the first 12 months that I had it and this unit quite literally went from one end of the country (Darwin) to the other (3 hours north of Melbourne) and back again plus it towed the float with two big horses in it up Brown Mountain near Canberra. Yep, I've had a few adventures in WhyNot and plenty more to come.

Of course what's a thread without pictures?

At the QLD/NT border ^^^^^ heading home after picking up the float (and a mates horse).
The float doesn't sit the rear of the Prado down but it just looks like it in this pic due to the fact we were parked in a bit of a hole.

What happens when a full grown bull camel forgets to look both ways before crossing the road. We were rather lucky that day.

At the top of Brown Mountain in SE NSW after hauling two fat horses up it no worries.

    Cheers

Welcome to PP and a good start with a 120 Prado. How did the camel fare after the collision? Should have got a few camel steaks out of him.

Camel copped a bit of silver paint on its shoulder and that was about it. I used to like camels up until then, after that I looked at my partner and told him that from now on the dogs can have as much fresh killed camel meat as they can eat!

Funny thing was when I was hunting around for insurance I thought it best to go with a Territory based company because **hahaha** should I ever **hahaha** hit a camel **hahaha** they'll be familiar with it. Didn't think that I would need to be making an insurance claim for just that reason only 6 weeks after getting my shiny new pride and joy back up to the Territory.

This is better than a quick G'day in the intro thread anyway. Welcome to PP, Why Not stay a while and make your self at home lol. Oh and I hope you ate camel steaks the night after that dent was made.

Edit; bloody hell Hazza beat me to the camel steaks hahaha

Cheers JSS .375 H&H does a fine job on camels Didn't have steaks myself but by gee we saved a fortune on buying dog kibble when we were living in the desert! Only had to feed the dogs a maximum of 3 times a week and they looked fantastic! Good stuff that camel meat (shot with permission from local traditional owners of course, the locals got quite a bit of fresh camel meat and the elders really appreciated it).

Yeah I'll be sticking around for a bit. Got a few questions to ask about the old Prado. Recently had a problem with a tyre going down all the time and found that one of the rims was cracked hence we're now looking at buying 5 new rims for it and snazzying it up a bit (there goes the tax return!)

Will put some more pics up this afternoon. I'm rather proud of this and my horse float because I paid cash for the float and made the final payment on the Prado back in March this year so this rig IS ALL MINE!!!

It's also been on the back of a truck once when it blew the head when I was heading into town with the float to get some hay.

Expensive exercise but alas she's still going.......... $4600 later (that was last years tax return!)
