  • Jaycar 140A Dual Battery Isolator - Anyone used it?

Hey guys, just going to drop in a VERY BASIC dual battery setup into my mobile toolbox.... a Ford Ka.... Don't laugh! Or I'll laugh at you at the service station!

But since I'm often working on sites with no power and I still need it from time to time I use an inverter. Now the main battery in the Ka is a bloody ox. It's huge, given that it's a European vehicle, they always get big batteries. Sitting here at home I have an unused Neutron Power battery from a Supra and it's about a quarter the size of the battery in the Ka. Perfect for starting the Ka, not much else as it's RC is bugger all. Since I have all the cabling here(accessories fitter) the only thing I'm missing is a charging solution. A mate of mine works at Jaycar so I get his discount... So has anyone had any experience with this guy?

My plan is to install the small battery in the boot and use that as my starting battery and the current main battery for everything else. In this instance, when I drain the bugger from the stereo, inverter or whatever... I can still start and charge back up.

Hi RanJ, the jaycar isolator is made by acompany called AOPEC think they are Canadia, you can check out their website for more info on their isolator.
I put one into a battery box I built for the second battery in the boot for trips away to run the fridge. It seems to do the job without any issues, only use it a couple of times since I've had it. It seems to connect and disconnect the batteries at the specified voltages.
I would imagine you would have to run some pretty heavy guage cable from the battery in the boot to your starter motor to handle the amps draw of the starter motor when cranking over, and also some decent cable from your oem battery to the isolator to the battery in the boot for charging duties.

It will be running either 2ga or 0ga to the boot. Just a single length. directly to the start. Then there will be a 4ga run from the isolator (enginebay) down to the starter so it can act like a junction block.

Can't find their website, but can find plenty of info on other websites. Thanks for that heads up. Will check them out.

I run this to my arkpak http://www.enerdrive.com.au/battery-...al-battery-kit but have only used it 3 times.but i cant see you having any problems
Drained the arkpak to around 40%-- 70% & 50% and the car charged it right back up each time no problems
