  • Product review - Roo Systems double swag

Picked up a Roo Systems double swag for $265 on special. Thought I might review it for others to help them out when looking to buy one. I'm well placed to review this swag, as I have owned a double mr swagman swag for a few years now. With a growing young son, he needed a new swag, so I've handed on my swagman to him to use. The only complaint I have encountered with the swagman, has been the lack of leg room at times. Personally, I don't like canvas on my feet when turning over in the night.

The roo swag comes well packaged from China. Old mate at the store mentioned I may as well throw the box away, once I open it all up. He wasn't kidding at all, as the swag and the foam mat only just fits back into the supplied swag bag. I was concerned about the 50mm foam bedding, as I'm a big bloke. It seems Roothy and Glenn Hadden have got the combo right, it's a very nice mattress and I had a little snooze on it this arvo, very comfortable.

My initial inspection of the stitching on the swag looks like it's done pretty well. I went over all the seems, including the vinyl flooring and it looks great. Inside there are two big windows on each end, with internal zip up flaps to control air flow and temps. On each corner inside the swag there are nice pockets to store keys, wallets and phones. Outside, there are two big storm flaps on each end of the swag, to keep the water out. Also, the big canvas side flaps are storm proofed. The midgy proof black mesh looks to be top quality. The flexiable end poles are of a good quality, as is the center steel pole.

I'm yet to field test the swag, but first impressions are good. For the price, it seems to be a nice swag.

Thanks Matt, I have been considering one of these for a while however reviews on them are hard to find. I really like the idea of the centre pole, and it looks like their is plenty of room.

    Cheers Matt

No worries Chewy, the fact there isn't a decent review available when searching google, is why I decided to post one.

There's nothing worse than having to just trust reviews from the people that sell the gear

Says 20kg on the box, I reckon that's correct.

Jeepers, it weighs more than our BlackWolf tent! The Mitchell Double weighs 14kg. (and costs an extra $100)

Hi everyone, I have noticed it has been quite difficult to find a good review on this swag to. So I will shed some light on this, I picked mine up just under a year ago and have used it on a few occasions up at Fraser Island aswell as double island.. Overall I think it's a pretty good swag awesome size very room and does seem to be out together well. Before I begin so your all aware I have only owned a single size swag before so I don't really have anything to compare this one to..
When I was at double island it was blowing a fair gale over the whole weekend and was glad to see the swag held up well, until we went to pack it up on Sunday morning only to find one of the poles had snapped. At this stage I thought fair enough I was pretty windy so it happens, after roughly a month of contacting 4wd super center about new poles comming in and being told they would be in next week, I decided to go straight in their and found they had plenty and gave me a new set.. I went to set up the swag this weekend on a camping trip and as I was bending down the poles to fit in it snapped clean in my face.. I wasn't happy but was lucky to have the new set. I set them up no worries and they worked well. Until early this morning when natured called so I unzipped the swag to hop out, as I got out we heard a bang and new straight away their goes another poll.. The swag managed to hold itself up so I hopped Olin went back to sleep and after around 2 hrs BANG!! Their was the second pole gone aswell! As you can imagine 2 sets (4) poles broken I wasn't happy at all.. I think this is common occurrence. As they told me their bringing out a new set of poles that are already pre bent.. I really good these new poles actually work else I simply can't rely on this swag to camp with.. I hope I have just had a bad experience with these poles and this doesn't happen to any of you aswell.. I will post an update when I get these new poles and see how they go..

Patrick...if your not happy when/If you get the pre bent poles and they keep on breaking....I'd go to the Head office nearby (Banyo) with the receipt and demand a full refund (+broken poles). You'll see Roothy in there serving Glenno his tea now that his quit 4wdAction!!
