  • Timely Reminder - Be Careful and Take Care

It all happens very quickly, no excess speed was involved, poor road conditions and road tyres (grandtreks)........

I was the only occupant, thankfully. Came out with a small scratch on my hand, whiplash and bruising. Could have been ALOT worse.

Also if you havent already got one, PLEASE buy a cargo barrier, I didnt and was extremely lucky that my head was not taken off by items being thrown forward!

As an interesting note neither of the front airbags deployed during the first impact or the last???

    My baby is no more.

    Regards,

    Rob.

Holy crap Rob .... what happened ???

From the looks of the damage two things pop to mind ....
    1. The cabin structure of the Prado does a bloody good job of looking after its occupants.
    2. from the looks of that slope things could have been a lot worse .... you are one very lucky boy.

Pleased to hear you walked away from this one ... there's too many people these days who don't.
Metal can be repaired or replaced .. body bits are harder to fix.

    Take care

Holy Farque Rob (That's French). Im glad your OK.

By the looks of the 3rd pic Rob, you had a bit of a somersault landing directly on the towbar. I bet your glad that in Aust, we drive on the left side of the road. If we drove on the right, the outcome with that tree branch would have been a whole lot worse

Go buy yourself a lotto ticket Rob - and glad to see you walked away from that accident.

I'd echo Chippy's words here... 'tis just metal, happy you're OK. I'm sure everyone want's to know the whole story though too, what led up to the 'oh sh!te' moment, what road was it (one to watch carefully?), conditions, tyre factor etc. As robn says, the patch of road in the pics looks OK but I know from experience that looks can be very deceiving. Good point re the cargo barrier too. Again mate, just happy you're OK.

              Rob,

Glad to hear you're ok. It certainly looks like you were extremely lucky. Also lucky you didn't have a passenger.

Hope you recover quickly and get back into a new Prado soon (-Grandcraps).

A cargo barrier is definitely on the cards after seeing that.

Bugger, Glad your OK. I dont think its going to polish out..

It looks like yourimpact was a bit of a glancing one whilst dropping off the road. The G sensors and airbag computers are quite clever the way they work and wont fire in all circumstances.Did the seat belt tensioners fire?

Under about 40kmh things wont go off in most vehicles.

Far out. Glad all is OK. Two things re air bags. The passengers wont go off unless a passenger is felt on the seat and the seatbelt is engaged. Also front airbags are only useful when you are thrown forwards as in a direct hit. Not sayng yours wasnt serious but looking at the bullbar it looks like you were thrown around but no real rapid deceleration in the forward direction. Airbags can actually do more harm than good if they inflate when not necessary.

Well Geez Dark! Whats this trying to re-design your Prado! I liked the first design a lot more. There are better ways to get back to nature you know......

The main thing is that you are ok and will live to fight another day. And we're all glad of that. I now feel a lot safer driving mine I can tell you! That looks like a demon of a slope you went down. Next time you do some "safety testing" though, please make sure you aren't in the car at the time..... 8)

Was thinking of sending a picture to Toyota for an idea on a short wheel base prado???

Prado was a March 2007 build May 2007 compliance. Had 17110 km's on the clock, was due for it's second service soon.

Tyres were in excellent condition, rotated and balanced every 5,000km. Although they are a HT tyre............. I was going to replace them as soon as they were worn with D694's or BFG's.

Basically vehicle lost traction and over it went.

Hit first tree, then backend hit the second tree which nearly brought it down, landed on her nose, rolled end over end and landed upright against the third tree.

Attending police officer said I was very lucky not to have more extensive injuries.

Shows that the "safety cell" does an excellent job.

I am still awaiting an answer from the assesor/insurance company as to her fate (have had various opinions as to whether she is a write off).

Happened in the Victorian high country.

Took over an hour to recover her. I had a Rhino rack on the roof with all the heavy gear on the roof. It was ripped from the roof rails and ended up about 15m from the vehicle.

Lost my mobile phone and me brand new Macpac Tent........ other items were thrown from the inside of the vehicle but were recovered in various conditions.

                      Regards,

                      Rob

Re AT20's, I was sliding around on a wet gravel surface yesterday on my Grandcraps doing 30-40km's I was suprised at there lack of adhesion when compared with my old trucks BFG At's.

Holy crap. No point buying a lotto ticket,
Used all your luck up for the day right there.

Awful feeling being in a roll, the whole world seems to be turning around you.

Lucky lucky lucky. But unlucky to happen in the first place.

                            Glad your OK.

Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.
