Great to hear that you are OK Rob.

Recently my son who is learning to drive went into a corner on a dirt road a bit quick and we came very close to replicating your accident. Luckily he managed to stay on the road after understeering then oversteering but ended up 180 degrees to where he was heading. It gave him a big scare and me an even bigger one as the country was very similar to that shown in your photos.

Has anyone with Vehicle Stability Control had it save them from an accident?

It's great to read you survived a major crash and can walk away and smile about it or is that still a bit sore as well.

I hope all goes well with the insurance company and you again can cruise at ground level.

LOL :lol: So if you didnt have an accident how do you know if you would have without VSC?

But yeah, I have had mine get a fantastic tank slapper up after hitting some bulldust once, the thing started beeping and carrying on about the same time I was looking out the passenger window (and i was driving!!) to see where we were going!! :shock:
It pulled itself out of the slide within seconds. though it took about 3 minutes for my sph!ncter to catch up though.... :shock:

I would easily say as did the passenger in the car, it would have gone round and probably over without the brakes applying to different wheels to pull it back onto line again.

very wet road 90-100kph, the prado went into an oversteer, drove out of that and it turned into understeer, backed right off and it came back into line... Used both lanes of a dual carraige way highway.

was without stability control.. nearly had a heart attack after it tho.

Thankyou everybody for your thoughtful replies and well wishes. Sorry I have not been able to post a reply until now, been very hectic with moving interstate, new house and ex-inlaws that came to stay, which until a few days ago were inlaws........... but that is another post................

Have been told that it was written off, would have cost in excess of $60,000 to repair if repairable. I have/had new for old replacement and now start the process of finding/waiting for another GXL prado.

This time I am getting BFG's or 694's on straight up. Been told that if I want VSC the wait will be in excess of 2 months!!!!

Will update further as I get more information.

Good to hear you will get a new one. After hearing how easy you lost control i wouldn't be without VSC, whats a few months when you have your whole life ahead of you.

Damn matey that is just scary - Are the Grandcrappy's the same as the ones on the GX? With all the rain we've had here in Brissie last week I am not pareticularly confident in them at all .....

As a side note, I could only afford 500 bucks after I bought the baby, and common sense won over wantee wantee and I got the cargo barrier instead of the snorkel .... or the down payment on the exhaust ... or the HID's ....

WORSE ! depending on your GX age , the 225/70/17 are thinner tyres than the GXL 265/65/17 tyres (less contact with the road).

i seroiusly recommend getting rid of them asap unless its a toorak tractor.

i have a mate at work who has just ordered his new 2008 d4d Prado and first thing he did was get rid of the Gcrap tyres for Coopers and put a ARB delux bar on it . Good decision i say :idea:

Mate you are damn lucky !!

Its shows that we prefer to be in a Prado rather than anything else !! the Safety factor is way up there !!

Its a shame its a write off but mate what is important is your health and we are glad you ok, I have recently purchase a D4D out of a 2007 model Prado for my 2002 model anyway this KZJ 120R has been written off in far North Queensland , I don't know the full story of the accident but looking at the vehicle the driver whom was actually a Doctor for the FNQ community service walked away after the vehicle rolled a number of times with the main frame remaining intact at high speed, wish i could show the pictures just don't know how to post it yet ! but he was on factory standard tyres one of the tyres has a big slash in it !! I wonder if that was a factor my guess is everyone get off the factory tyres for safety sake

I think this is the City View 4x4 Park, just West of Beaudesert. It doesn't mention City View, though the suburb mentioned is at the City View turn-off, so I'm taking some small leaps in my assumption here.

Seems the mishap occurred due to a failure in the recovery gear or their technique. It will be interesting if more information becomes available.

A MAN died when his vehicle plunged over a steep embankment at a four-wheel-drive park south of Brisbane yesterday.

About 5.45pm, the 59-year-old man was driving an "extreme" course at a 4WD park at Bromelton, near Beaudesert, police said.

When the wheels of the vehicle went over the edge of an extremely steep grade, the man stayed inside while others attempted to tow him back onto the track with a chain.

The chain snapped, and the man's vehicle plunged over the embankment.

He died at the scene.

Police investigations continue.
