  • After market vs genuine mats/seat covers

    Hi everyone.

I'm new to the forum. Just purchased a 2013 diesel auto gxl. I'm on the search for some seat covers and rubber floor mats. Just wondering peoples thoughts and good or bad experiences with after market gear and any recommendations.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum Herbs.

There are quite a few threads on this already, try google search as this works best. Here are a few threads to start you off:

    http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ne-Seat-Covers
    http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...-Some-Feedback
    http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...abba-floormats

I personally have the Supertrim wetsuit material covers and have found them excellent. I have the genuine toyota rubber mats and they have been ok, but I think I will go with the 3d mats next as the back floor mats are all one piece which I think are a great idea.

    Cheers Matt

We have the genuine carpet mats in our 2007 and I must admit, they are bloody nice and nice fit. I've never had genuine mats in a car before, always he supercheap/autobarn cheapies.

Hi Herbs and welcome to the forum. I have the Toyota carpet and rubber floor mats and am happy with them so far. I keep the rubber ones in all the time and just lay the carpet mats over the top around town, the driver's one attaches to the same clips. The beauty of the rubber ones is you can just take them out and hose them off when they get muddy, they have a bit of a lip around the edge that catches the dirt too.

Great. Thanks for that. I did see the 3d ones and wonder about them. Seems people are fans of the sandgrabbas. I might have found a set of genuine seat cover in gret cond apparently for $300 both front and middle.

Mine mats are genuine... Subaru. Previous owner had a Forester that he transferred them from. They are rubber bucket type. Whilst not Toyota Genuine they do the job of collecting the majoriy of the muck the kids carry in. Toyota kindly move the drivers one to the boot everytime it goes in and tell me it dangerous

Rear Seat cover is an old sheet spread over the seat and trapped under the child seats.

They both do a good job so it depends on how fussy you are I guess.

(I do have the Genuine Rear boot rubber mat. That is great I have to say. Caught a few spills and prevented a few scuffs in it life.)

              Herbs,
Welcome to PP and say goodbye to a healthy bank balance.
My experience with genuine rubber floor mats is not that great. After 6 - 8 months the spot underneath the drivers right heel started wearing away. I've persevered for an extra year and now have a hole in the rubber mat. My next mats will be the 3D rubber mats from eBay.

Next mats will be the 3D ones

We have the sandgrabba mats but the carpet version. They are great, especially with little kids who insist they can get themselves in and out of the car!!

Seat cover wise, we put on genuine toyota seat covers and so far they have done the job.

Just had a look at the 3D mats and the rear mat looks very small ?
Looks like it was made for the 3rd row seats feet area only ?
The sandgrabba mats cover the total rear floor area
So much better for putting wet camping gear or wet recovery gear back in the car.

My understanding is that the smallest mat from the 3D set was to be place under the second row seats. That way the carpet is protected when getting in and out of the 3rd row seats.

Never one to follow brand loyalty I bought a set of these for my 120 but I'll post the link for the 150:

                          http://www.booter.com.au/Cargo-Liner...agon-p162.html

Cargo liner and second row footmat are the bucket style so they catch and retain all the mud/dirt. Fit perfectly like a glove and unlike sandgrabba the second row one goes all the way across (not two individual ones) but they are not pinned in like sandgrabba! Possibly not as expensive? Just use SCA dishes for the front two. The cargo liner also hides the screws/retainers for my cargo barrier ( did not have to cut large holes) as I sourced some very narrow finger screws form industrial bolts & nuts (i.e not the fat/large plastic milford oner's).

                            Hi Gramps,

I've noticed the driver's side rubber mat is wearing in the same place which is odd since I normally have the carpet mat over the top. Have you ever tried taking them back to Toyota? Mine are right on 12 months old. The Kmart ones I had in the 95 series lasted almost 10 years, were left in the car when I traded it.

That's why I put a KMart one on top of the Toyota drivers one.

I had to put some holes in to stop them moving and stop Toyota removing it at each service.
