Seems about time I purchased a dash cam. How are the Blackvues going from the group buy?

I bought two, one for the Prado and one for the ute and love them! Great quality and a huge plus for me is their software is mac compatible and works quite well. plus the wifi is a good feature if you want to check anything enroute!

I've actually forgotten mine is there. . I've only got the activation notification enabled so it sits doing its job. Caught a few close calls. (Including me letting the back end get away on a dirt road)

Took a little while to get the angle right and avoid exposure issues with bright light. Though most cameras would have that issue. Images are pretty good. Night time is a bit poor when there are few or no street lights.

I find the GPS speed lags a second or two behind. Ie I apply the brakes and the display only registers the change 1/2 secs later. Which could be an issue if I ever tried to use it in a court case. Other than that no complaints. No issues with heat so far as was reported in earlier models. I like the instant review via wifi which is why I got it. Now my GoPro can be used for more interesting angles.

I'm toying with getting another for to use with the wifi as a reverse camera/rear view camera on trips and for SWMBO's car.

Recently caught out a dealer telling me the cold start test was all good, when in fact the car was left idling for 5 minutes before they did the test.

I bought a Vico. All good. It does its thing and also reminds me to behave.

Remember if you rely on the video as evidence in court, only the vision is considered. The speed data is ignored as its not a certified measuring device and this data can be tampered with.

I thought the speed data was imprinted or what ever they call it and cant be modified ?? ..... And r4ndll there extremely handy especially when they don't realize its there like when I cought them flogging mine......payed for its self already.....Ive turned off all audio stuff that it does/says when its turning on/off etc except when its recording which as pointed out cant be used UNLESS you notify them they are been recorded. And like yourself I totally forget some times its there so yes you have to behave yourself as well or it could also get you into trouble. ....Cheers Steve

The data is embedded with the vision, but the court ignores it and does not accept it as evidence.

So it can't be used against me either.

Hoping I never need it, but it should be able to prove fault in a 'he said /she said' scenario. Which is all I really want.

I was considering the Vico but it didn't have the wi/fi live view app and was a little larger but better night vision if I remember correctly?

Hey guys , after some doofus went through a red light on Monday and missed ending my working life by less than 6 inches , I decided to get the blackvue 500 gw- 2 ch wi fi . Problem is I'm a computer doofus and maybe the 2 computers and my iPad 2 and my iPhone 4S are to old as am I but I can't get this useless thing to do anything except tell me it's on and recording . I've downloaded the app twice to my phone and PC . The wifi on my phone asks me for the password for the camera . WTF where do I find that ? None of the software downloads from the website will actually download and if it does it comes up with a corrupted file . Support on the website ! Yeah right . Does any one know how to help a moron like myself make this thing work ! Before it ends up in the pool or inserted in someone

Actually, I've used black box footage and speed data in court. It is admissible and accepted from what I have seen.

All still, video and audio recordings are able to be produced as evidence in any court provided it is ruled appropriate to do so by the magistrate. Some defence counsellors may argue the admittance but this usually damages their case and they end up offering a plea. In fact, evidential video footage is becoming so common in court these days that magistrates almost demand it.
