  • In car recording camera help to buy.

My dad wants one of those in car video recorders for Christmas except I have no idea which one to buy. Can someone please give me some advice on some good brands and models. Cost is not really a concern at this stage.

I have heard you can also get ones that load to a website your trip moments.

You won't go wrong with either of those.

What does he want it for? That will guide your decision. GPS or not GPS logging? LCD or not LCD screen? Wifi or no wifi? Recording trips or just as an observer in case of accident?

There are cheaper Chinese ones but go for Taiwanese or Korean
I have a Blackview 500 and have no issues with it. Logs my speed (being able to use this in court of law is questionable), and my GPS location. Has a mobile app that allows you to view recordings, so no screen, so it's small. Hardly noticeable. But haven't been through a high temp summer yet, the 400 suffered overheating.

Vicovation are also good (no experience of them though)

DOD also are meant to be good too

Have a read of this. Might come in useful.

Mum wasn't really helpfully for exactly what he wants it for but I'm assuming it would be for recording trips.

I think he is keen on the idea to have the GPS in it so he or others can track his trip on a map as he goes.

He loves his gadgets so I would also think the wifi would be his choice. Plus that would get rid of the screen therefore a smaller unit.

I would also like the option to have the speed and time on the video.

                Presume you mean blackvue? .

Mine stopped connecting after upgrade to iOS 7. I deleted the app and reinstalled and it was fine. No issues with Win8.1 though. I just chuck the card in the card reader and it's fine.

Just to throw another brand into the ring, have a look at the DOD LS430. I got mine through Dashcams in June this year.

Has very good night recording and Excellent day recording, also has GPS, G sensor and other good gear.
It has an LCD screen so you can playback the vision with out a smart phone or laptop as most other require.
When combined with a Power Magic Pro you can have motion detection video recording functions.

I spent some time researching dash cams and this does everything that I wanted and as a shift worker good quality night recording was a must.
One thing I did find that your best amount to choose from, are on the internet.

                    Cheers REV

The smarty by Dteg should also be looked at.

I've fitted over 4000 of these To govt vehicles and its an exceptional little unit.

                            Have a look at http://dashcamsaustralia.com.au/compare-1/

I have no affiliation with this company whatsoever, apart from buying a dash camera from them.
