  • Dodgy Dealers?

Hi I am new to Pradopoint but I have a dilemma and currently pissed off.

I have currently signed a contract for a 2014 Prado manual in ebony, it will arrive early next year. They will build a manual black Prado from scratch because not many customers purchase a manual black Prado. They have a manual in white, they informed me today that the black one will be $700-$1000 more expensive than the white one because Japan will increase the price on the black one.

Due to the price increase the contract will also change, I told the salesperson who I was talking to that they can't do that to the contract and his comeback was "yes we can if Japan increases the price that means the price on the contract will increase as well".

Am I talking to a Nissan dealer, I am so pissed off when he gave me that stupid dumb answer.

When I got home I checked out the Toyota site on the Prado and there is no additional cost on the black one, it is the same price as the glacier white. I rang Toyota direct and followed by Toyota Sydney and Melbourne, and they all informed me (after they laughed with disgust) that there is no price difference.

Should I take my large amount of deposit and go through another Toyota dealer or should I wait until they actually change my contract which they can't do?

Read the contract you signed again, a dealer can and will change the price in the contract for a car on order.

They only gave me the first page of the contract, is the page that I signed for at the start (after I drove the car). The salesperson that I am dealing with is currently on holidays, and he is a friend of ours. In saying that, If I am not happy with the new price I can always back away from the deal because I have signed for a $60 manual ebony Prado, I will ask the manager tomorrow. I tried calling the manager this afternoon but he was not available.

Do you think he is just trying to make a quick sale while the other salesperson is on leave, new color means new contract?

I signed for the black one on 30 Nov, why are they just telling me now, is it because they received a manual white one today?

Another thing that pissed me off is when I asked when did they increased the price on the black Prado, and his reply was "they increased it on your one". After my confirmation with Toyota direct and also a number of dealers (city) out there, these guys are trying to sell me the white one. Not that there's anything wrong with the white one, I've always wanted a black car. I have seen a fully modified Prado (ARB parts) and it looks pretty sick, this is how excited I am about the black one... I gave it a name already (Black Mamba from the movie Kill Bill).

I would say read the contract and see if there is a price rise provision or clause in there. You may need a legal eagle to read and interpret it for you.

Alternatively, ask the sales dude to point out where in the contract it says he can hit you with another $1k.

Sounds fishy to me. Use your power as a consumer and tell them you are taking your business elsewhere if they change the contract price. My bet is that they'll back down pretty quickly.

x2 from me. I'd be tempted to start looking elsewhere. Should you buy somewhere else and your mate gets back from holiday's and asks what happens, make sure you tell him straight up that the others were trying to shaft you while he wasnt there.

Most contracts have price rise clauses in them. You need to read it carefully and understand it.

You need to be asking why the price has changed.

              What model are you buying?

Toyota do make black manuals often, they bring into the country all colours and types to meet the consumer market.

All vehicle contracts have a cooling off period, I would get my deposit back and go else where.

I signed a contract on a new car for the wife, they changed the contract for some accessories and rewrote the contract and we all signed in agreeance and then they changed the price and asked me to sign another new contract. That's when I didn't agree and refused to sign the rewritten new contract and asked them if they find somewhere to place the car and went elsewhere. I got numerous phone calls from the original dealer asking me to come back and sign as we had a deal and I said yup and I've got the original contract so happy to proceed but not on the newer one they changed. Didn't hear anything again. I would advise the current dealer what head office told you and stand in from of the sales manager and call Toyota again or just walk away..

Get an email from head office, got to have it in Writing, then go back to them to ask where it says they can raise the price. We all need to read contracts carefully.

Top of the morning to you all, hope we all had a wonderful Christmas and thank you for all the replies.

After an extensive research and in line with the NSW fair trading act, the dealership who I am going through with the absence of my consultant (friend of ours who comes back in two weeks) are trying to shaft us.

I have rang several main Toyota dealers (city dealers including a handful of country dealers) here in Australia and all gave me the same information's, and are as follows:-
                      - it is cheaper for them to sell me a car that is already in their yard, they don't need to pay for freight
                      - from looking at their 2014 monitor, there is no price increase with the ebony paint scheme and it is the same price as the glacier white
                      - they all hate country dealers, they make a bad name for the rest of the Toyota dealers here in Australia
                      - they can't change the contract especially when it is finalized, including when both parties do not agree with the price hence the reason why I can always say "I am not happy with the new price and I will take my money elsewhere"
                      - $60k for a 2014 Prado GXL is probably the best deal on the market, the 2013 is selling for around the $60k mark
                      - do not back down on this deal, $60k is set in concrete for a 2014 Prado GXL in a ebony manual

At times you breeze over contracts and you normally rely from the person who you are dealing with, in saying this the person who we were dealing with is a friend of ours and that is probably why he got us to sign and finalized the contract before he went on leave because it is probably the best deal that he could give us.

Another thing that I forgot to mention to you guys is the person who were trying to shaft us with a prickly pineapple, earlier on before he tried feeding me bull shit, I asked him if they are going to re-value my trade in and his reply was "the contract will not change and what I signed for is what I get"

I have only dealt with Subaru and purchased one Nissan car. The Subaru dealers and also service are pretty damn good comparing to a Nissan dealer and service. I tried a number of times to test drive a Jeep GC but every time I go in a Jeep yard no one would come out and help me so I decided to try out Toyota but they are trying to shaft me, my question is to the floor, are all Toyota dealers like this?

Mate seriously, caveat emptor, this is not a big deal, all car sales guys try to maximise their margin, move on.

Will do, just can't wait to get my Prado without getting stuffed around by the dealers. It is also a change from being with Subaru for 15 years and now to Toyota and I've never had any hassle from Subaru.
