Thanks for all the comments. I'll definitely have a closer look at the BFG. Considering I'm going to be driving mainly dirt/sand next few years it's an important call. Cheers for the feedback.

Can anyone recommend a good place to source some D697s in Perth? I'm moving that way soon and have heard tires are pretty pricey over West!

Bridgestone in Malaga can do some good deals, think he's an independent but under the Bridgestone flag.

I have also seen a picture on a WA 4x4 Facebook page of a new BFG with side bite like the st max..!!

I think that picture was also posted here somewhere, not available in Australia at this point though.

            Cheers Andrew

Perth tyre places are at least 10% more expensive than the east coast. I looked at buying online and shipping and could still land it at a better price before fitting. But no tyre place really wanted to fit the tyres for me, so they just ramped up the fitting charge to make it hardly worth my while.
I'd prefer to buy local but seriously when you're talking you can buy 5 tyres for the price of 4!

I got the best deal through Bob Jane in North Perth. He was very willing to negotiate and match any quote.

I have the Bridgestone dueler 697, so far very happy with them. Previous two prados, hilux, zuks etc I ran bf's but I always disliked them in the wet, found them very skittish. In the dry and on road fine. Decided to change this time due to cost but also the issue with wet roads and they are like chalk n cheese in the wet, the dueler been very very good traction. And I'm just talking general driving not pushing it etc. will they last as long ?? Probably not but if I get 20/30 k less out of them but I don't worry when the wife is driving and/or the little ones in it, or hurt some one else then I couldn't care less if they don't last as long.... Have had them off road and and beach etc and performed extremely well.. Cheers Steve

This really is an excellent forum, thanks for the detailed, quick replies. Yep, my research suggests the 697s sound like the way to go for me. A friend has some BFGs on his Prado and said they were awesome off-road but was worried for his family when they drove the car on bitumen in the wet.
