Prados in Japan

I was in Japan recently and spotted quite a few interesting 4WD's. Heaps of Suzuki's, Prado's and surf/4runners, Landcruiser 80's and 200's. Also, it seems the Toyota Crown lives on over there, they even have Hybrid Crowns!!

Here's one of the many 90's, and with a bent step too - so it's true, they do come out that way!?



Plenty 120's but no photos

A frozen 150 in Hakuba - which had just stopped, it was driving around like this.



And even a 70 series Prado! This really looked fantastic. Shame about the inconsiderate prick who kept walking into my photos (he even stopped right in front of my camera for a while).

First ride I had in a Prado was a 70 series diesel. I walking to the office (around the Coast from Hiroshima) on a Saturday and a Prado pulled up. It was a mate of mine who decided we should go fishing instead. Back to the hotel for a change of clothes and then an hour or so run to his favourite rock fishing spot. Bit of lumpy stuff on the way. Interesting fishing gear including 6m+ rods and electric winch reels but that is another story.

I've spent way too many hours browsing Yahoo Auctions Japan for parts for my other car and in doing so have come across many interesting 4wd related things, I've got a folder of pictures of bits and pieces I've discovered.

Some of the body kits and rims on their prados getting around over there.... sheeesh

I'm most envious of their different 120 tail lights, electric folding mirrors and HID headlights.

It's worth having a look on Goonet just to get a taste of their "styling" haha.

Love that 70 Series. I have a kind of sick soft spot for them...... And old Series 2 Land Rovers, but thats a whole other illness

We had a muncho man at work that busted a gut to get a 4 door troopy which is much the same as the 70 series Prado. He didnt want a Prado 150 cos he reckons they are too soft. Once they got the 70 series he didnt like it as it is no where near as comfortable on or off road and borrowed a 150 when he could. After a year or so they solved the problem when one of the other blokes ended up tipping the 70 on its roof.

Interesting to see that all 3 vehicles in the photos have weather shields on all 4 windows. I'm not the only one that loves them!

^ Me too. I'd say 90% of cars in humid climate areas like asia rock a full set of them.

I bought a set of all 4 weather shields for my mums Rav 4 from japan and it turns out the Jap model from the b-pillar back is about 10cm shorter than the Aus models... :shock:

A lot of nostalgia for the 70 series. Wow. It was really rough. You guys can have the leaf springs and limited flex, I'll stick with coils thanks.

They aren't eligible under SEVS. Basically they are too similar to cars sold locally in Australia.
The only ones eligible would be personal imports, where someone has owned it for 1+ year in Japan and then relocated back to Aus.

There are a few sellers on Ebay selling them for 120. They are all aftermarket and not the best quality compared to genuine. I can give you better details of the ones I've got if wanted, however for $70 you can't complain.
Unfortunately I couldn't find genuine Toyota ones on YAJ either this year, where as I could around a year ago.
