  • Smelly rubber Toyota mat

    G'day all,

Last week I bought a genuine Toyota rubber cargo mat for my 150 Prado.

As soon as I got it, I opened the box and put it in the back and was happy with the fit, but the smell was shocking! A really nasty petrochemical smell. When I got home, I hung it over a couple of chairs to air out under the patio. That was four days ago and it still stinks, this morning I even tried giving it a good wash but to no avail.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so did you manage to get rid of the smell? At the moment I am planning on taking it back for a refund and getting an aftermarket one.

    Cheers,

    Mark

Mine came with the car so I don't know what it smelt like when new but it certainly has no smell now. I bought a set of the genuine front rubber mats a while back and there was a bit of a rubber smell but it went fairly quickly.

Maybe wash it with soap instead of just water?

I had/have the same problem, ended up buying a $20 one from supercheap as I couldn't get the smell out either, tried washing with numerous things and no luck.
Been sitting outside in the weather for about a month now and it's finally starting to get better!!!
