  • Servicing ARB air compressor for lockers

Had the little air tank off my ARB locker compressor recently.
Its got a lot of oil in it which means there's probably not much left in the compressor itself.

This seems to be a bit of a 'black hole' in the internet and ARB choose not to answer so-
Does anyone have any info re servicing the compressor? How it comes apart, what should be done and what to watch for?
Where do I put new oil in?

    Thanks

Malcolm on the ARB website there are drawings of the compressors, you can find the links through the lockers area. Also have a look here for the LED lights for A RB bars and send Sam a pm.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately none of the links in the document work. Sent ARB an email, lets see if they bother to answer.

Here's a link to the installation guide which has an exploded view of the compressor.

Malcom, sorry should have clarified about Sam, luckily (? help! ?) mlc has my back. Go to this link:

              http://www.arb.com.au/media/products..._SP_Manual.pdf

And select your compressor from section 3, click on the link and it will take you to an exploded diagram with specs and information.

I would suggest sending a pm to Sam as well as your email into ARB head office. Sam is very prompt at answering questions. Here he is:

EDIT: Too slow Andrew beat me to it! Are you sure the oil is from the compressor and not diff oil?

Does this actually work for you? Firefox won't follow any links whilst Explorer does not even show anything as a link.

                  Thanks Andrew.
My comp is a lot older than that model but I guess its fundamentally the same. This one also does not appear to have an oil 'top up' hole.
I could remove the head but I've no idea how much compressor oil to insert.

I use IE 9 and it works fine. The subsections are in red and are links if you click on them? Cannot comment on Firefox... Andrew's link should take you right there if it is the right compressor.

I haven't pulled my ARB compressor down but I had the old Bluetongue in pieces a few times and it was dry with sealed bearings that is why I asked about the compressor oil, are you sure it has oil? Looks to me like the whole bottom end is dry.

                        Sigh...
IE 8 and Firefox = failure. I'll have another look when I get home tonight.

Hmmm... Well no I don't know for sure.
The air tank has about 3 tea spoons of oil in it which I assumed came from the compressor but I guess it could have come back from one of the lockers over a period of time.
Comp is under the drivers seat so it wouldn't be a huge effort for the oil to overcome gravity and flow to the tank but I can't see how it would overcome the air lock that the valves should provide. Also no obvious evidence of oil in the lines when I had them off.

I also wouldn't have thought a tiny comp like these would have an oil bath but can't see where else it would have come from except from the mechanics.

Sorry, no idea. No markings on it that I could see.
Its an old model with an unpainted gal steel air tank. Body is painted black.

OK, links work in IE 11.
None of those pics look like what I remember as I have a manifold of sorts off the tank.
The tank is a bolt on open ended cylinder with nothing screwed to it.

I'll get a pic tonight and post here.
