Am I just cranky in my old age?

I have just purchased a 2014 VX Prado and find the satellite navigation screen just plain dumb! I put in a destination and it will tell me how far I have to go, what time I will get there and IMPORTANTLY a direction arrow in the top right hand corner of the screen indicating the next change of direction, i.e. turn right, left etc. Now this is fine for approx. 15 seconds before the screen defaults to either a two split or 3 split screen (sharing with telephone, stereo etc.) and THE INFORMATION THAT YOU WANT TO READILY SEE, EG NEXT DIRECTION CHANGE DISAPPEARS!!!

You have to touch the screen to refresh it but 15 seconds later is defaults back to the split screens.

Now I don't know about you but I find it handy glancing at the screen every now and then to see how close I am getting to the next direction change.

    Cranky?

The thing I find most frustrating is that I have spoken to the dealer, spoken to the Toyota help centre ( there goes a chunk of my life I won't get back) and I can't get ANY satisfaction or an answer as to how the peanut that developed the system still has a job?

Unless I am missing something? - can anybody help?

Seems like a setting to me. Mine will stay in full screen if i select nav mode and i can see all the directions. The upcoming direction change is also displayed in the centre of the dash between speedo and tacho.
I have to agree that considering the cost of the car it is a POS nav system. Doesnt even display speed which is good to reference how in accurate the speedo is. My old Tomtom from 10 years ago was a more functional device

Thanks Ian, is your Prado the facelift model? I have had the techs from Ballarat Toyota check it out and it is not possible on mine to default to a single screen. The frustrating thing is that nobody in the Toyota system seems to either no or worse still care.

        Hey Robjh
I will have a look tomorrow at work (I have been with Toyota for 25 years now(you reckon your getting old)) on the new spec VX. I think there is a setting there to have it sit in the satnav screen.

Your right 1/2 or more of the entire population don't know and the other 1/2 don't care. Yes I'm definitely getting cranky & old. Get back to you tomorrow night.

2014 Prado VX sat nav system

          Hi Rob
Yes mine is an update model.
I had a play yesterday and mine always stays in full screen when i select it . My home screen is split between radio, phone and nav screen.

Just had a look at settings this morning --- try this
From home screen select settings on top right of screen,
          Select general.
Select or deselect "auto return to home screen"
When i selected that it performed as you described in your post
          Hope that sorts it

          Cheers
          Ian"

Rob, do what Ian says above. Untick the box or it will auto divert back to home screen. Tried it today no probs

Has anyone had a freezing issue while the sat nav is operating? On 3 occasions my new VX has now frozen at around the start of the trip and the only way to reset is to turn off the engine! There is no mention of freezing in the manual, and I am taking a punt it is a bug related to just my new girl.
