Has any one any pics of their light bar mounted to the top loop of the sovereign bulbar and how did they go for clearance when opening bonnet up. Ive looked through a thousand pics but havnt found any with genuine bar only ARB or TJM bars which have a more straight up design and not angled back as much as the genuine one, well they don't seem to be anyway. I have ordered one tonight off ebay (lightbar) and have driving lights mounted down on the bottom half of bar and don't want to replace them, and then thought about the clearance issue lol ......Cheers Steve

Mounting Light Bar to top bar of sovereign Bullbar

Steve there are a few aluminium mounts getting around which clamp on the top bar and then have provision to bolt to the end of a light bar if that is how your light bar mounts. Noticed these in the flesh at our local ARB just before #1 pushed a button and blinded the rest of us with a blast from the light bar on display. Should give you flexibility to move the bar around to clear the grill. My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

Its the same as this one Matts got http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...150-GXL/page51 so mounts from the bottom. Ive sent the seller an email asking wether he has ones that mount on the ends. Will see what he says. Worst case I suppose is mount it forward of the top bar....Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. No mods yet

What's the legalities around protruding above the top of the bullbars? They seem to be on a mission for rod holders in NSW at the moment, and I wonder if this would be in the same category?[SIZE=2]120 GXL D4D Auto, with a 'List of Wants' greater than the 'List of Needs' greater than the 'List of Haves'

That makes it a bit tougher, there are some options that might work like these

I would think these will be the same as anything else at the front and they cannot protrude forward or obstruct the vision of the driver. My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

Hi there r4, I've just been searching the RTA site (called different name now) and couldn't find a bloody thing on that. All I found via google was this http://www.allianz.com.au/car-insura...driving-lights Probably looking in the wrong section but only other thing I saw was headlight covers and the legal requirements.......Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. Cheers. I'm in the same boat with driving lights already fitted, but thinking of an additional Lightbar. I've only found regs concerning sharp objects or protruding in front of the bull bar but not above. It's all a bit vague re lightbars above the bar.Originally posted by Steve M View PostHi there r4, I've just been searching the RTA site (called different name now) and couldn't find a bloody thing on that. I read somewhere about objects not protruding past the "profile" of the bullbar. It's then a matter of how the profile is determined past the top tube . Does it form a straight line to the bonnet or angled up, parallel to the front face of the vertical "posts".
I'm thinking of the former as pedestrians will wrap themselves around the top tube to hit the bonnet. So I think that it is better to mount a light bar below the top tube.

Hi Steve,
I know what your on about. I recently looked at doing the same. On the sovereign bullbar there is very little bonnet opening clearance if a lightbar is mounted on top and positioned so it is not protruding forward. It is very tight. In the end I went for mounting it on the front of my Rhino basket. I works well there and gives a wide light for track work. The only thing I needed to do was to "black tape" the inside of the bullbar top rail, as it was reflecting glare from it.
I'm happy where it is and it's also more difficult for light-fingered people to get to.

I will be watching this this with great interest as I am looking at doing the same with fitting a lighbar to my sovereign bullbar, on another note my cousins who live on a farm have brought quite a few of the spot lights and light bars and have only had one playup and that was quickly replaced and they get a rough workout on the farm utes and rough roads.Greg

Dropping the missus off at work the other evening I noticed a nicely setup 120 D4d with a lightbar fitted to the top of the roo bar and it didn't appear to be
positioned too high.

Sorry to bother you again Matt roughly how much of the light would be infront and behind the mounting bracket ?? It says on the specs 73mm, presuming this is the depth of the light (front to back). Looks like going by your pic the mounting position would be roughly half way ?? I only have 2.5cm clearance between grille and bonnet (as per pic) so no hope in hell of mounting any form of light behind the top loop. Im thinking it would be possible to use the same mounting brackets and have them facing outwards so the light bar would be in front of the loop. It is 7cm approx from the front loop to the very outer face of the bulbar (the black plastic as per pic). So Im thinking this would be the best position as it would stlll not be protruding past the front of the bulbar BUT one thing, would they look at it like fishing rod holders ?? [IMG]
