Hi all,
I drive up to Gosford area from Melbourne once or twice a year. Last time I noticed that the fuel economy reading was higher going to Gosford than coming back. This time I decided to check it out. On leaving Melbourne I filled it up with Caltex Vortex, the run up was fine, cruise control set at 112, temp mostly around 32 with A/C on all the way. The reading on the trip computer was 11.5, slowly dropping to 11.2 by the time I got to about the Liverpool area when I hit traffic and turned the cruise control off.
On the way back I filled it again with Caltex Vortex and headed home, temp started at about 27, rising to 31, cruise control at same setting and A/C on. The trip computer reading was a consistent 9.5.
I was on the Hume both directions, the car was about 20-30kgs lighter on the way back, but I doubt if it would make that much of a difference to the economy.
I did not double check manually, I just relied on the trip computer. Any ideas why the difference? I don't really need to know for any particular reason, just curious.
