  • Sold the prado: jeep?

I don't wish to get jumped on by prado owners, but I would like to know if anyone has swapped over to a jeep, and if so their thoughts
I have just sold my 2009 prado petrol, a great car but thirsty when towing. I know the prado diesel is better, but it does not have the towing capacity of the jeep
So your opinion ions good or bad would be appreciated
    Thanks

I know plenty of people that have bought a jeep, done a few things with it on a surface other than bitumen, then promptly sold it wondering why they let themselves get sucked in by marketing and sales hype. Others may have a different story but if you're going to throw your hard earned at a an over priced, unreliable, under developed, American car - the best of British to you.

Hi, I had (until very recently) a petrol wrangler. It was great and just as capable as my Prado (pre mods) but it drank fuel. I sold it and picked up a very low km Prado (V6). Around town they use the same amount of fuel, but the prado wins on the highway. I prefer the toyota over the jeep but I have need of the third row of seats

I am a previous Jeep owner, without going into too much ranting I highly don't recommend them. Every time I have done an outback trip i've had 2 jeeps come with me and one of them always breaks down. Makes me wonder how long the new ones will last. They look great, but durability is a little questionable... only time will tell.

If you're driving on the highway I guess it's no biggy.

I had a Jeep, mind you it was a TJ wrangler which was a bit less redefined in comparison to current ones. Swore I would never touch that name again. Blew a diff it cost me 3 times what a toyota one would have... You will miss the prado.

I know a jeep wrangler (2 door) owner who does several outback/ high country trips a year never had a real problem beyond normal heavy use wear and tear. It's amazing in standard form. And they're very happy with it, but you are probably looking for a bigger jeep, a Cherokee or similar ?

The son has the new jeep Wrangler sport and its fantastic off road.Looks great goes great, BUT
He tows his tradies trailer around and it drinks like a fish.would hate to put a van behind it.
The exhaust manifold needs changing as you get an awful tick tick tick from in there. And its a hard push to get Jeep to do it.(google it,USA models all change it over )
In the summer its a hot box as the roof has not insulation of any sort.
I would be jumping on a jeep forum and do your research there.
Son hates the day he got his.

Yeah the forum you want is ausjeepoffroad

but in saying that they are all on their because they love Jeeps, like we are on here because we love prados. everyone on that forum will tell you to sell the prado for a jeep so like anything it depends who you talk too...

also resale on Jeeps is rubbish, you will do a lot more dough than a toyota.

Do the Yanks swap the indicator stalk over when they import their vehicles? If they don't and you're a 2 car family, it could be a pain in the butt remembering to not turn the wipers on when you want to go round a corner.

If you're really sold on the Jeep (and I am not) buy a second hand one and save a motsa

We have a Jeep Cherokee that a rep purchased as a company car, the others are Suzuki Grand Vitaras, offered the Jeep to the other reps, they all drove it but declined the offer, so now it sits in the warehouse waiting for the new rep to start.

You would be surprised how quickly you adapt to indicators on opposite sides, a lot of trucks have the indicators on the left and you just get used to the particular vehicle and don't think twice.

A bit like jumping from a backhoe to an excavator, same controls doing the same operations but they operate on opposite hands for half the functions, but I can jump from one to the other and not have to think about the difference, it just happens.

                            Cheers Andrew

We have a Prado and a Ford. Stalks are on opposite sides in each vehicle. No problem for me or SWMBO to drive or swap between either and no wiping the windows when we should be indicating
