Sold the prado: jeep?

After more reading and more reading, looks like I will be heading back to the prado again, although I did like the grunt and gadgets on the jeep. But as mentioned here, reliability long term well who knows, plus service costs etc etc. just wish the prado had more power

I was impressed with the 200s when I ran them through a 4WD course last year. They climbed and descended the steepest of slopes with such ease and we didn't even use the electronic assists. There's a tonne of weight to be saved by not having the KDSS. I haven't had a close look at the bare bones GX but, if it came without the KDSS and the rest of the decaffeinated crap, I reckon it would be a good rig to do up. I'm still inclined towards a v8 diesel ute with a custom tray and canopy that would suit my needs. Have to speak quietly, the Prado and the missus might over-hear me.

I can now say that towing 1.5t of boat around is effortless.......and i'm getting a tad over 17ltr per 100k towing the boat with 33''s 2'' lift and loaded.........not bad.

Why do you doubt the authenticity? Its all there and you can check it. I remember Chrysler/Jeep not being very happy with these tests and managed to get some more done with the results they wanted.

No way I would by a jeep. I reckon anyone that does in this country needs their head read.

"I always heard they were but I had no experience. The new 2014 JGC diesel sounded perfect for me so I went to the dealer today. Just got back.

Drove three miles and then drove it back to the dealer w/ a no thank you.

In that three miles, this happened:

The entire dash nearly came apart when we hit a bump. Literally a screw popped out and a 25% of the plastic chitty dash was hanging there loose.

something clearly broke in the suspension. On the same minor pothole there was a loud BOOOM on the right front side. Bearing maybe.

The auto transmission has a mind of its own. It revved to red line when I tried to merge slowly onto the highway."

I have 2 mates with 200 series . The only diesel car that has impressed me . If I wanted to tow something regularly , the 200 would be it ,other than a 4.2 turbo 100 series , or the 4.2 patrol . Yeah sorry , I mentioned a Nissan

There's three sides to every argument. There's, yours, and the truth. As stated I the article there were complaints that the initial testers overloaded the car:

"Jeep’s parent company Chrysler Group responded to the criticism, claiming that the Grand Cherokee in question was tested in an “overloaded condition”. A subsequent evaluation was conducted by the magazine in the presence of Chrysler Group engineers, and despite testing three vehicles over 11 runs the original two-wheel-lift-off result could not be reproduced.

German publication Auto Motor und Sport has now conducted its own independent moose test, which was performed at a
test site sanctioned by the Europe’s largest automobile club, ADAC, with the course dimensions and layout in accordance with those set by the International Standards Organisation.

At the completion of the test, Auto Motor und Sport concluded the Jeep Grand Cherokee remained safely on the road at all times.

Is there a link to this test, I know the original lane change test was re-done by the same team with the Jeep folks onsite. They had updated some of the ECU/configurations but still blew a number of tyres and had similar issues. The second test is also up on you tube
