  • How far can I push it <0kms cruising range

    Guys,

Diesel, auto and I'm at about 10kms cruising range and the nearest servo is about 50kms away. How far have you pushed your luck before it coughed? I know it's not a good idea as the fuel adds cooling and lube to the pump etc but it might be touch and go here...

    Cheers
    Chris

Did over 85km on empty with the warning light on. But still had 11 litres left in the tank when I filled up.

Wanted to test the low fuel warning light for our upcoming cape trip..
Had the low fuel light come on, I then drove 42 kms until the needle was reading dead on empty.
Then the scan gauge reported i had another 101kms left to empty (which is usually very accurate for me)
              Refilling backed this up.

Good results all round, nice to know there is a substantial buffer, still not keen to push it that far though!

If I drive my 150 diesel till it says 0km range I can get 140L in the tank so thats 10L to spare or about 100km of city/freeway driving. Be interesting to see what the scan gauge has to say when I get around to plugging it in.

last year doing Wolf Creek to Old Halls Creek via station tracks, did the last 110 Km towing a 1500kG Camper with the light on. On filling up at Halls Creek put 140 Litres in, technically 10 to spare It really is a guessing game.

Is anyone keen to go for a drive with a spare jerry can of fuel just to see exactly how far it will go until empty

I got down to 10km to go on the range meter, and the following day had the fuel filter light illuminate. So I'm not advocating going that low again.

I wouldn't be keen on doing that either, when you run the tank this low you are more than likely to start sucking up the dregs in your tank, clogging your fuel filter. Just my 2 cents worth.

The fuel is constantly being pumped around the system so it's incorrect to say that the last bit of fuel (dregs) in your tank has been lying there going off. Tank to pump to rail to tank to tank and so on and so on. And passing through 2 or 3 filters continuously too.

The only time I put 150 litres in was after pulling the tanks out and cleaning them .
