12 volt warmer

just wondering wether if anyone has installed a 12 volt warmer .
I was having a look at the travel buddy warmer - thinking of heating up pies etc

They do a great job of heating but the pie does not crisp up.it is a little soft on the pastry edges.
But if you have pre cooked food that needs reheating before your lunch stop they are great.

D4D- I see you plug your warmer straight into the cig / socket in there rear of your prado. have you had any fuses blow or any problems ?

No problems, I did test the current draw before I fitted it and found it to be pretty much what they advertise which was well within spec for the factory socket.

I have one of these, I have put steak and onions in foil also some mushrooms in foil ,a couple of spuds in foil and a small tin of peas (unopened) in the cooker several times now . Takes about 3--4 hours while you drive ,the smell drives you crazy and dinner is cooked when you stop , I cook/warm up pies under the bonnet while you drive ,they get crisp and hot.

We put them in an hour before lunch and they were pretty hot.But they do get a bit soggy.
Not real wet soggy just not crisp sort of a steamed look.
We did roll them in alfoil so that would of steamed them up as well.
For $20 that are great

That's the beauty of the travel buddy, designed for purpose and pies come out crispy. I usually put a pack and a half of frozen party pies in, 2 hours later hot crispy pies

im liking the sound of all this.
i was thinking of mounting this warmer on a rack/ shelf.i think the was some sort of rack you could buy that mounts between the two grab rails in the rear of the car , but I cant find any links to it.

I've got one of the Dick Smith specials as well. I broke it in up in the High country a few weeks ago, there were a few envious looks as I tucked into my pie for morning tea!

I found it took about 45-50 minutes to cook a defrosted pie. As the heating element is on the bottom, I needed to flip the pie over about half way through. I had mine on the passenger seat, plugged into the main 12V socket on the dash, with my iPad plugged into the secondary 12V socket. The pie warmer has a 15 amp fuse from memory, and when it was on, the iPad stopped charging.

Hi All,

I also have a Travel Buddy 12v Oven in my Prado.

It takes approx 2.5 hours to heat, a defrosted pie.

I use Mrs Macs Pies which are larger than most pies and heat in the plastic wrapping.
During the last 20 mins, I open the plastic wrapper and remove pie and then place back into oven.

During this time, I also turn upside down so the pie is crispy Top and Bottom

super cheap 12volt warmer

just got one of these warmers from supercheap - seem to work ok.( photos courtesy of another site)
