Wow that was a big outage! ( nearly 12 hrs)
Was getting a bit Toey without my Pradopoint fix!!!
( actually had to talk to the missus to get me through that tough time . )

Curious to know what caused such a lengthy outage Admins..

We had a server upgrade earlier in the day. The database version that the server was running required updating and that had some flow on effects.

There are a few errors still occurring and the board software will be updated on Saturday (later today) to resolve the last remaining conflicts.

Ok, we are back in business.

Below I've written synopsis of what occurred for those that are interested.

Mid morning yesterday the server software was upgraded to address the concerns of the heartbleed bug even though we don't use SSL on the site.

In order to apply the upgrades, other core server software required updating. This included the MySQL database server and the version of PHP that the server runs amongst other things.

That all appeared to go well. The Cloudflare service we use to stop spammers and dodgy traffic continued to present a cached versions of the site and as such monitoring continued to show the site was online.

Around midnight, I received a txt message to say that the site had been down for some time.

Until approximately 2:30am I worked to troubleshoot the issues. The end result was that the version of PHP was incompatible with the forum software and required upgrading.

Between now and then I've made multiple site and database backups for redundancy and have upgraded the forum to the latest version.

What version vBulletin is the Forum now running on? Noticed some neat little features in the upgrade. Particularly in the settings pages. Good to see the editing toolbar is back in the quick reply box. I found this only appearing intermittently and often had to go to the "Go Advanced" window if I wanted to change font or add images etc... (or maybe that's just my browser causing the issue?). You can also now see the reps that you've given as well as received which I spose is handy...
I do like the simplicity of the layout compared to some other forum site that are a bit gawdy with all the fancy over-powering emoticons etc... keeping it simple is best (KISS method)
