You'll probably find that RACV will be using the redbook or maybe glasses guide for their values. Redbook should give a pretty good indication of the private sale price which is closer to what you'll receive in a total loss claim.
    Cheers
    Micheal.

There is a range there but the average Ks they list are higher than ours and they don't account for any extras. Will give them a call and see what they quote and see if it matches. Just don't like the sneaky way they try and slip these things in, pretty sure the excess and premium have gone up from last year too.

Also be aware that the accessories you list are not replaced and are paid at their market value at the time of the loss - this means you'll be lucky to see 10% of their new cost...
        Cheers

Good topic this i just about to renew my insurance with NRMA and they are about 300 bucks a year dearer than allianz and aami etc coles lil red quote was even cheaper anyway i rang NRMA and asked tell me why i should stick with you seeing you are so much more and the bloke said because i have a 4x4 i am covered anywhere ie roll over on oodnadatta track and they will pay me, he did say he recently had a new customer who he said aami refused a claim because he was off road he signed up with nrma for the reason of being covered off road so for me i keep paying the extra for peace of mind..

NRMA just over $1200 now a year for 26k. Starting to get expensive now. Never ever had a claim in 29 years... Will be questioning it this time round... Cheers Steve

There are lots of variables that go into pricing insurance, age, vehicle, mods/acc's, driver experience, post code, garaging, multi vehicle policy's, finance the list goes on and on.
Be careful of market value policy's because MV can change at any time, you really want agreed value locked in for the renewal period, choice of repairer because you don't want your pride and joy Prado to go to joe blogs budget repairs, make sure you are covered off road, acc's and non standard items covered, I.e. mods that may not be legal (lift kits, fishing rod holders, some bull bars, tyre's 35's etc)
I pay about $1000 for a 45k Grande with mods and I think that's reasonable. you pay for what you get.
shopping around is one thing but if you go to an insurer that you have had no dealing with, relationship built, that's when you hear horror stories!

Billbo I have every single thing with NRMA, two cars comprehensive, green slips, road service on both, house, contents, trailer, and one other, and garaged and behind locked gates at work but I do agree with slammed. Some times better sticking with one and just hope they are loyal when/if required. Hopefully I'll never need to find out. Cheers Steve
