  • Fake Chinese made Prado?

So I found this Prado on the interwebs just now and I was just confused to what I was looking at.

It's basically an unlicensed Chinese copy of the 90 series with 120 series style grill and headlights and 120 series bumper, flares and body cladding.

Ask BMW how they faired when they tried to sue a chinese company for ripping off a few of their models.

Hopefully they won't import these here.

Yeah I know what happened with BMW. Just how the heck did the Chinese win is what I question.

I just hope those fake things don't ever get imported/exported anywhere.

I go to China regularly. They manufacture under licence, toyotas, BMW's, Mercs in fact most brands that are high volume. I travel in a Chinese 5 series regularly and it is of equivalent quality to others I know here. I guess they are adopting the production techniques (and the look it seems) to their own brands. Remember it was not that long ago that we all though Japanese cars were rubbish

This is a discussion I have regularly in my line of work and its something I remind people of.

A broad range of Japanese goods improved remarkably over the decades (pity about Toyota today. But I digress) It's been a long time since anyone has cried "Jap crap!"

I've heard it said many times that the Chinese have quality manufacturing. To which I'm always prompted to ask - why do we only get the crap landed in our country?

The problem is our poor mindset in the western world, everyone wants to haggle and get the best for nothing.

I go to South East Asia for my work and import various things, I sell a medium to high quality item and have very little issues and problem/returns and that is because I am not paying for 'cheap shit'.

The Target's, Costco's, Kmart's and Harvey Normans have destroyed the quality of everything based on a selling shit faster at a cheaper price.

Same old motto applies. Buy cheap, buy twice.

I have a contact in the UK who exclusively deals with Chinese manufacturers. He says that if you ask for cheap quality you get cheap quality, but if you ask for good quality they will provide it. He has very few manufacturing or QC issues with them. So you have to ask who is to blame? The makers, or the importers.

The consumer is to blame. They set what the market is willing to pay, the importer goes back to the supplier and says I need it made to this spec/budget to get my margin and then manufacturer customizes' it to get the price. Whether is is good or bad quality depends on this... The consumer is to blame.

The consumer! Just look on this or any other forum any day of the week and see all the people obsessed with price. Low prices sell, everyone wants more for less, something has to give and its quality.

Someone develops a product and its a hit, next thing you know a low quality low priced alternative that's not much better than rubbish is being sold and everyone looks at the original and says, geez that's a rip off, I can get it for half the price.

Want a case in point, Maxtrax!

                            Cheers Andrew
