  • Speeding Fines VIC - Applying for an Internal Review

Just wondering if any Vic based members have been successful in applying for an internal review of an under 10km/h speeding fine? Looking at this link it seems you are able to do this under certain circumstances :-

    http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content...ument_ID=10369

I have unfortunately copped one but my previous fine was just over 2 years ago. I also received a discount on my last license renewal due to my clean driving record. I'm going to check the photo first and take it from there but just wanted to hear/read what others experience has been in this situation.

Yes I know, don't speed and you won't get fined but the rare time I do stray over I get pinged. The location I copped the fine in is a known camera point and I'm normally extra cautious there, don't know what happened that day.

I've only ever seen/heard this being successful when an actual policeman gets you - you just talk to them and they make it a warning. I have heard of horror(ish) stories where someone has attempted to have it reviewed, and they've ended up with more than the fine they could have paid - Good Behaviour Bonds, suspended sentences etc, just for speeding a little.

It's always worth pleading your case though. Especially when its a camera - they seem to have many issues...

      That they do!

I've spoken to the Civic Compliance Office and they said I can try given the circumstances and they've given me an extension of time so I have enough time to do it. I'm not going to take it to court, just fill out the required form requesting an official warning and cross my fingers.

Hey Danda I do have respect for the police but in this instance it was a fixed camera and they didn't even have to do any work for the revenue except for looking at the film and issuing a notice, easy money eh?

              Hey Fido666,

I'm in Melbourne and got off a speeding fine this time last year by sending in a letter telling them how well behaved I've been over the last 15 years and was let off with a warning. It was a mobile speed camera and it clocked me at 56klm in a 50 zone. I didn't think they would let me off but my brother in law told me to give it a go as he has done that twice in the last 5 years and has been let off both times.

              Good luck

              Steve

You can ask for leniency if you have had a good record over your lifetime of driving.
My mates wife did just that a month ago and got let off.But she did not have a fine for over 5 years.
                Good luck with it !!!

That's good to know Steve. Going off the link I posted earlier it only has to be 2 years but I'm sure it would be easier if there was a longer gap.

Well, if you have that much respect for the police and the law just pay the fine - you did wrong, cope it sweet?

Well the option is there and listed on the notice so I'm going to use it, they can always say no. Remember fixed cameras have been known to be wrong and this was an under 10km/h over offence.

Check this link out for an example of a letter that worked

If you are determined to challenge. I seem to remember a heap of NSW camera fines being negated due to incorrectly set up cameras.

Additionally. I would try and get a review. If you don't try, you will ever know. It's only the cost of a letter. You've got good record, no major offences, and you're very sorry.

I got pinged for an out of date train ticket($200). it was a day over as I'd been to Brisbane for work the previous day and forgotten to get a new one. I wrote in, told them the story, gave them copies of my plane ticket, and previous 6 months travel passes, told them I was very sorry, and they let me off.

Can't hurt to try. You are going to have to pay the fine anyway, may as well try and get a review.

Exactly, there's no harm in asking.

If they withdraw the notice and issue an Official Warning instead you don't have to pay the fine.
