More like 15 years of un-detected crime.

You Vic guys really cop it down there . I got done in WA a coupla years ago by a camera hidden in a bush . I was going to write a letter to them but the fine came through at $50 and no loss of points . I just sent them the donation. In 2010 I got done in QLD for a ticket that would have seen me walking home and a fine that would have cost triple in NSW . I've just come back from 4 days in the vic high country and we were absolutely vigilant about our speeds while in VIC , once we crossed the border , not quite as vigilant

If you live close to court or work flexibly you can ask to have the matter heard before court. Rock up, tell em a story and say sorry. Ask the mag would he consider a 556a given your good driving record.

Down here < 10km/h over is a $180 fine and 1 demerit point. It's 3 points between 10-24 over but not sure what the fine is. It's 4 points between 25-34 over, 6 points between 35-44, 8 points for 45 or more over. Get more that 12 points in a 3 year period and it's possible loss of licence. That's if you are on a full licence too, if you're on your learner's or Ps you can only have 5 in 12 months before risking loss of permit/licence.
I'm normally vigilant too Kav but the speed zones change so often around here I'd have to have my eyes permanently glued to the dash and not on the road to never stray over. It can go from 70-40-60 in a 2km stretch around my neck of the woods.
Over 45 in WA is instant loss of licence and car impounded. You'll get a nice fine and have to pay the towage yard about $800 in fees to get your car back. Don't be surprised if governments buy more speed cameras. WA is also getting more sheriffs to recoup fine defaulters and they're already trialling clamping in 2 major centres.

I would first just write them a letter saying that you have a good record and must have had a loss of concentration etc. I got off one recently doing this, it was for less than 10km over out in the middle of nowhere passed swan hill. Part of the response back from them was not to write another letter for 3 years. So you may need at least 3 years of no tickets to do this. You can aways get it review after trying this.

Meanwhile in the UK they've ripped out 6000 point cameras after research showed they're not effective in cutting accidents. They are, however, putting in lots more 'average' speed cameras on stretches of road. Which I don't have an issue with. Point cameras penalise you for momentary lapses (like Fido), or can be misused (on downhills etc) IMO.
I really think point cameras are dangerous. Everyone is going along at about the right speed. Ooh camera! Slam on the anchors! And go 10 km under the limit

Doesn't it just mean you won't be let off with an official warning again if you get another ticket in the next 3 years? Sounds like what you did was apply for an internal review, you can do that either by writing a letter or filling out the form.

Travel on the Hume highway out of Melbourne and there are forests of cameras in some spots, I believe these are point cameras but not sure why there are multiple ones in one spot.
Mr Fido once got done for going less than 5 km/h over by a mobile camera placed in a dip at the bottom of a steep gradient. At the time he did not know this camera placement was against the Vic Pol guidelines so subject to challenge and just copped it sweet. I believe they have recently changed the rules to allow this type of placement though.

This is what happens with the new fixed cameras on the Monash Freeway near Glen Iris too. The speed limit changes to 80 just after the city bound ones and everybody speeds up again. The thing you have to watch out for there is the speed signs in the 100K bit are variable and I have seen them dropped down to 80 on occasion.

We were there last year for a month. The flipping tomtom went berzerk on the motorways alerting us to the average speed cameras and displaying our average speed. I guess the average is probably better because a momentary lapse doesn't get you a ticket.
Yes I write a letter every time I get booked and have only had to pay 1 fine in last 12 years and that was for 80 in a 60 zone.
Write a letter it can't hurt and see how you go
