The thing is, what has prompted the concerns?

Really? Since when? The only time mine ever got cleaned was the day I discovered black (used) oil everywhere under the bonnet and complained.

My mechanic gives the engine bay a degrease and shine after every service. It comes up so new and clean it's almost embarrassing!

Not to sure when Mackay Toyota brought this in, but it's been happening for a while. Well as long as I've been getting mine serviced with them anyway! Maybe they know I'm just a picky sob and it's best to keep me happy haha

If there anything that gets done while you are getting a service or ripped off or both, it will be an oil change (maybe not much else).
As others have said that oil has been replaced if its diesel.
Air filter? Well if your paying for a new one, every 20k (dusty conditions) you can complain about that.

So many Prado owners marking things.......
I would suggest if you need to do that, you might want to go elsewhere for your service.
You need to take it to someone you trust!

As a vehicle tech, If I found items marked to check up on me, I would nicely suggest if my customer doesn't trust me please go elsewhere.
Yes I do have issues don't take well to not being trusted.

I wash down the engine bay every major service or when it's required.
So many places don't even have time for that.

Checking the sump plug won't work if I serviced your vehicle.
I spray it with brake cleaner & wipe it dry & like new, don't want customers thinking they have oil leaks, will let the other workshops do that.

              Yep, you have issues.

If a mechanic acted up on finding things marked, then I'd take it that not everything gets done at that shop, and yes I would take my business elsewhere. Clear indication of guilty conscience in my book.

How else would a conscientious owner know if the service is really done? I've had service items missed and when I have approached the service manager he has found out one of his mechanics is slacking off! Finding and reporting things like this is a favour for the business and other customers. It's not the mechanic that will be driving the vehicle in remote areas when it breaks down because routine maintenance was paid for but not done.

Yep nothing wrong with a few discrete marks, if you don't have a guilty conscience why would you be offended?

                  Hi Andrew

                  For comparison.......

Do you provide tax invoices and photos showing that the steel you use in your sliders to be new and not 1.2mm cheap gal?

                  No? Why not?

Because we trust you that's why. No different here I reckon. Unless trust is breached trust should be given.

                  Cheers Daz

I don't because no one ever asked. As I said I trust my local mechanic, but on the road I have little trust as I have been burnt before.

                      BIG issues !!!

                      Trust is the answer!!!

I suppose you have a point if you going to a big or dodgy workshop with kids that take your parts home, not stealerships. But why would you do it to yourself.

I've got issues! You already know that.

You say "I don't mark my filter for my regular mechanic because I trust them implicitly, but if I get a service when travelling I will put a small scratch or something on the filter in order to check. I will also check the oil on pickup and any other easy to check things that may need doing."

In other words you mark it if you don't trust them, fair enough.

Anyway each to their own, but if you don't trust me, your on my sh!t list & I know I've got issues. You don't care & either do I. LMFAO.

Edit:-)($&: I have the trust of all my customers & they don't need to & don't mark anything.
                      Trust is given

When I was in Kal they used to wash the car after the service. I always wash it before it goes in for service, especially making sure there's no mud underneath the chassis. I told them not to bother washing my car, and please, please, don't put that shiny shite on my tyres and bull-bar.

I think you will find that most here have their Prados serviced at dealerships or multi-mechanic workshops. There is nothing wrong with checking that the work is done. Trust is personal and there is no way you can have trust when you don't even know who is putting spanners to your vehicle.

Even in a one mechanic workshop, Trust is earned. You say you expect and demand trust before you earn it. How do we know if the workshop is dodgy unless we check? Should we just gaze at the sweet receptionist, open our wallet and take our chances? You've got to be kidding.
