    Hiya champ..

Lived in Kal for 12years and worked at Long Shaft and Victor in Kambalda a few moons ago... Matt White and MAV are the ones after the jobs not me :P I'm currently at Jundee and Invicta near Willuna....

Anyways, may have sorted Matt with a job... Asked the right person yesterday and he's got an interview this week. (hope he doesn't mind me sharing this?)

I'm sure he'll get the job, we gave him a pretty good rap.... They think he has superhuman powers and all

Still waiting for the bell to toll so to speak, probably have a better idea in a month from now. Of course like everyone I am hoping for the best but planning for the worst.

I hope everything turns out well for you though.

            Cheers

              Hi Mav

All the reports you are getting on the training is correct. Don't touch it as they will rip off your wallet and you won't get a job out of it.

I can vouch for this because I am a trainer training people already working in the coal industry or people trying to get into the industry in the Hunter Valley.
You have a couple of options, go to www.pegasus.net.au and have a look around the site (I work for them) while in there sign up for the industry updates newsletter, which will keep you posted on what is happening in the coal industry in the Hunter (jobs etc). Most of the mine sites here look for 6-12 months of previous experience but there is an influx of trainees taken in under a traineeship scheme (still good money) but to qualify, you generally are not allowed to have any previously completed qualifications unless you achieved them more than 7 years previously.

The other thing you could try is flicking your resume around to some of the large mining equipment distributors (Westrac, Komatsu, Hastings Deering, LeTorneau, Hitachi) because a lot of this mining gear is hi-tech in the electronics department nowadays and the Komatsu, LeTorneau and Hitachi stuff is electric drive also.

              Just worth a try

Up this way most people have to go on short term jobs to various mine sites with employers who subcontract their labour to the mines. The money is better than working for the mines but it is unstable and you are on casual wages. If the mine likes you after a 3 month campaign then they offer you a position in the place.
There is another option and that is if you know someone, they will offer you a spot in the team.
All up it will take months anyway as like most companies they try to do things right.

Thanks for the info Jacto, I will look into the website. Still need to hang five for a while to see what pans out here as I am pretty well setup in this locale. All good things come to an end sooner or later we are all hoping it will be later but you never can tell these days.

Just to add my two cents worth.

In the mean time it might pay to get as many tickets/courses/qualifications as you can i.e. forklift/senior firstaid/mines health surv/police clearance. You could always ring the labour hire companies they are always screaming for people. Even if you start on the pit floor pumping bomb on the blast crew its a start.

                      cheers
